1990: Battlefield HQ

Let's take a step back in time!  "Pump Up the Jam" by Technotronic, "Blaze of Glory" by Jon Bon Jovi and Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract" were atop of the Billboard charts, many of you hadn't been born yet.  Transformers were tragically about to be phased out in North America while I was getting ready to graduate from high school...

It was well before Cyber Planet Keys or even Optimus as a Gorilla, the best Transformers could do was attempt to tap into the popularity of the, "Micro Machines" toy line.  Micromasters were very small, (even smaller than Mini-cons) Transformers and the, "BATTLEFIELD HEADQUARTERS" was the biggest of these tiny toys.  Full-Barrel and Overflow are Micromaster partners who link to form 1 vehicle which closely resembles the much larger tractor trailer (playset) which transformed into twin space shuttle form and a 'battlefield headquarters.'  Of course, with no cartoon or comic appearances (except maybe a cameo in the Micromasters series released by Dreamwave a few years ago) much of their story  is left up to our imagination.  You'll find the this page now permanently linked to in the 1990 Transformers section.

Wow. Hard to imagine something smaller than minicons.

"Full-Barrel and Overflow were Mini-con partners who linked to form 1 vehicle..."

Mini-cons? You mean Micromasters right? Wrong era.

heh, heh, heh, yup you are correct SB! "Oops, sorry, my bad!"

BTW, you made some astute observations about that starscreamrulez page. Images on that page are not just taken from other sites, they're ON other sites. That is, if you right click and hit, "copy image location" you'll see these are images located on the servers of other websites. The BBTS banner at the top is from Seibertron.com Many of the other images are hosted on our file server. (And as far as I recall, no, we were not asked permission.) Don't misunderstand, I'm not mad. I mean, at least he was nice enough to put up a link to our site (even tho he didn't credit us as the source of those images...) Sadly, that's better than a lot of instances where we've seen images ripped off our site w/o out permission. Again, I'm not upset or anything, these images are not, "ours" just because we went through the trouble of assembling them. But taking images from another site straigh up, w/o asking is considered bad "web etiquette" among those in the know. Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents...

If only some of the micromaster bases' molds were expanded and tweaked(Groundshaker comes to mind :))so Scout or basic-sized figs could fit into them, I would be the happiest tfan ever.

Interesting, I was a teenager when these were out. Sad to say I wasn't interested in Transformers during this time. I still had them in the backm of my mind. Now that Im an adult, I don't care, I like Transformers. Anyways, that reminds me, I still have the micromaster Overload in perfect shape. I think I need to dig it out.

Never did get this toy. But I do remember thinking how cool the stars and stripes motif was as a kid when I saw it in toy catalogues.

Micromasters need more respect.
