I like to think G1 Iguanus is the same character as BW Iguanus. Neither were important characters in their own series so unlike many other Beast Wars characters sharing the same name as a G1 character, I don't really think there is any problem with them both being the same character.

However Reptilion is definitely a seperate individual.
Sidewinder said,  - 2008-12-17 10:28:27
Agreed, with the close ties between G1 and Beast Wars, I could see Iguanus being the same character. You are right in that neither really struck a name for themselves in a major way, so I could see Iguanus just eeking out an existence as a low level mercenary or enforcer, not high enough to draw major fire so he can continue to survive.

Man, I actually think Iguanus is my 2nd favorite of the Decepticon Pretenders, behind Submarauder and in front of Finback. I just have a thing for reptillian-types.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-17 11:48:25
I don't know about them being the same guy. Each bio seems pretty vague about each personality, and some characters like Beast Wars Grimlock made direct notice their bios that they were the same as their G1 versions. Oh well.

Anyways, this guy looks pretty cool, especially his Pretender Shell. Love those details. Not digging the wheels in vehicle mode, though. But, it's too bad he never made in into ChĂ´jin Masterforce (show, toyline, or manga) at all. But I wonder what he would've been called, as all the characters got different names from their U.S. versions.

Despite not being released in Japan as himself, Beast Wars Iguanus was named "Igunar" in Japan. So, if they are the same guy, that could be G1 Iguanus' Japanese/Masterforce name.

I'm actually shocked that Perceptor himself didn't make a claim to believing that this Iguanus and BW Iguanus were the same person. I tend to believe that the only characters that make it from G1 to BW, other than those specifically stated (like Ravage and Grimlock), are Laserbeak/Lazorbeak and Buzzsaw/Buzz Saw.

Likewise, I tend to think of the Japanese versions of characters as the same as the American versions. So, I tend to believe that Crazybolt from Beast Wars Neo is Iguanus despite that our Iguanus' colorscheme was released as Igunar. I guess I could come to accept Crazybolt as Reptillion due to the transitive property, or something like that, but that's just a little too much thought. It's easier just to accept that they have the same mold and name them that way.

It's BW Neo Killerpunch, Dead End, Break, Stampy and Heinrad who are the problem children when it comes to American names...
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-17 13:14:07
Don't forget Big Convoy, Cohrada, Mach Kick, Sharp Edge, Bump, and Survive.

And I tend to like to think that "Lazorbeak" would be what BWNeo Hydra would be named if BWNeo were ever dubbed.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-17 13:17:02
Nope, those guys have names, Sabr. The only ones completely devoid of names are the ones I mentioned above. And I agree. If BW Neo is ever dubbed, then Hydra should be Lazorbeak as well.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-17 14:02:22
They do? English ones, I mean. What are they?
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-17 14:23:26
First of all, Bump and Survive are Armordillo and Grizzly-1 (or Barbearian, depending on what name you prefer). Big Convoy and the others are going to completely come off of your own personal beliefs in continuity. As I'm sure you're aware, Big Convoy was released as Nemesis Prime. I take that as his name. If you think about it, it makes sense. Big Convoy always works alone, is big and angry, same toy mold, unique Matrix unlike Leo Prime's, etc, etc...

Sharpedge I just take as Cybershark. I know there are mold differences, but seeing as there is no one else who uses the mold that doesn't have a name (meaning Hellscream), I don't have a problem accepting the name change.

Finally, I play with Corhada and Mach Kick. First of all, Corhada is supposed to be Colada, like the drink, which makes sense because he's made to look like some sort of Spanish character with his poncho and hat, but that's beside the point. I think that Corhada is the same character as Night Viper, but Night Viper is him after reformatting. Mach Kick is in the same situation with me. I like to think of him as Battle Unicorn or Magna Stampede... preferably Magna Stampede because Battle Unicorn is a terrible, TERRIBLE name. But there you go. Seeing as the others do not have American figure releases, or a figure that uses the same beast mode, they have no names... yet...
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-17 14:34:37
There's a problem with some of those. Armordillo and Cybershark both got Japanese releases before they were released as Bump and Sharp Edge. Armordillo was named Armor and Cybershark kept his name (even before he was Hellscream). In Japan, all three shark bots with the same toy mold are three different bots. They're in the same boat as Iguanus (Igunar)/Crazybolt.

Grizzly-1/Barbearian was a Japanese release to begin with. He never got an English version of himself. So it wouldn't make sense to change to name of one Japanese character to the name of another Japanese character. And Polar Claw wouldn't fit either since he too got a Japanese release, as White Claw.

And I too like think that "Night Viper" would be a good dub name for Cohrada. But I'm not so sure as making him the same as the BM character of the same name, but that's just me.

And I personally don't like either "Battle Unicorn" or "Magna Stampede" as names. I guess horse TFs always get stuck with the odd ones. But then again, a horse TF itself is kinda odd. :P
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-17 14:44:02
Well, as we've already established in my whole thing about Iguanus, I don't really care about that Armor and Cybershark vs Bump and Sharpedge. I just consider it because one's animated, the animated appearance takes prescedence and recieves the name. And technically Grizzly-1 was a non-released American figure that was released instead as Polar Claw. So Grizzly-1 is an acceptable American name in my book.

Horse transformers are weird...
Bass X0 said,  - 2008-12-17 16:59:43
If you're renaming Japanese characters then how about Quick Kick as the American name for Mach Kick and Snake Eyes as the American name for Cohadra?
And I don't particularly like cancelling Japanese only characters out just because they have the same mold as an American toy.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-17 20:02:21
Technically, we're not renaming Japanese characters, more like we're trying to figure out what their American names are. On that same topic, if I could name any character, I would name Heinrad Rachrono, as in Racoon Dog, his beast mode, and Chrno, meaning time... because he can stop time.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-18 11:25:13
Somewhere I've heard Heinlad/Heinrad renamed Countdown. Unofficially, of course.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-18 14:00:38
That was the TFCog fandub. I remember seeing Big Convoy called "Magna Prime" because TFCog once CONSIDERED calling him that in their fandub. That was a weird one, I thought. I always thought Mammoth Prime would be an acceptable name for Big Convoy. Considering that the word "Mammoth" litterally means "Big" and then that "Prime" and "Convoy" are sononimous. But then again, I really like the thought of him being Nemesis Prime because then there are the two distinct Matrixes for he and Leo (Leo has the Autobot/Maximal Matrix of Leadership, Nemesis has the Dead Matrix). But maybe that's just me.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-18 16:44:13
Personally, I'd like Big Convoy to be called something like "Maximus Prime" or whatever.

About Nemesis Prime, back when he first came out and before I knew anything about him, I was really hoping that he would be one of two things: either Big Convoy twisted by Unicron's corruption, or an evil clone of BVig Convoy created by Unicron. I was sad to later find out that he was neither, nor did he have any connection to Big Convoy at all. He was just a clone of some dead Optimus Prime from another dimension (the same one that Megazarak, who killed that Prime, came from). Boy, Hasbro sure know how to get our hopes up, and then let them come crashing down.

Lio Convoy doesn't have the Matrix of Leadership. He, like Big Convoy, Lio Junior, and Optimus Primal in the BW dub, has an Energon Matrix.

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Energon_Matrix

But I can see how you thought of that idea. But one thing bothers me about the original Matrix of Leadership. What happened to it? We last saw it in Rodimus Prime's possesion, but afterward, he obviously doesn't have it anymore once he becomes a Micromaster, and it's never said what he did with it, and Star Convoy was never shown having it (though he wasn't shown not having it either, but still). Did he lose it or something?
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-18 17:00:08
Fun fact, I initially had the same Big Convoy getting twisted into Nemesis Prime theory that you mentioned. Great minds, right?

I don't know. Personally, I just think of Leo Prime's as the original Matrix and the Lio Junior/Prowl copy is a precaution the Matrix took because it couldn't be passed on.

All of the Matrixes in the Japanese continuities are weird. Like Fire Convoy's and God Magnus'. They are completely different from RiD Optimus Prime's and... well... RiD Ultra Magnus doesn't have one. Sideburn, Prowl, and X-Brawn just get upgraded by Ultra Magnus and none of them know why... not even Magnus in our continuity.

So, that's why I have my Big Convoy/Nemesis Prime opinion. Consistently throughout American/English animated Continuity, there seems to only be one Matrix. I believe Leo Prime would have that one, so the explanation to the other is the Dead Matrix held by Nemesis Prime.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-18 18:51:12
But the Dead Matrix was created by Unicron. And Big Convoy had his Matrix before he even went to Gaia.

For me, the Big Convoy becoming Nemesis Prime wasn't much like a theory, it was more like wishful thinking. Too bad it didn't come true.

And what's funny is that Takara considers RiD and Car Robots to be the same thing, despite all the name/faction/concept changes (and all the dub errors).
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-18 19:37:24
What does Unicron creating the Dead Matrix or when he goes to Earth have to do with anything? If Big Convoy and Nemesis Prime were the same character, that'd make sense. He'd just have had it all along since his creation in the G1/Alternators continuity and blah blah blah...

In my interpretation of the continuity, my fannon, Nemesis Prime survives the Great War, and during the times of peace between the G1 and Beast Eras, some shred of his Optimus Prime origin comes through and he defects to the Autobots/Maximals. But he's still big and angry, so he always works alone, always carrying the Dead Matrix.

Takara did that with Cybertron/Galaxy Force also, right? Didn't they, after the fact, make Galaxy Force in continuity with Micron Legend and Superlink? I seem to recall reading that once on the TF Wiki.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-18 22:35:52
Er, what? What does Alternators/Binaltech Nemesis Prime have to do with this? He was created by Dr. Arkeville who tapped into some time device thing that pulled out a piece of the Unicron-created Nemesis Prime's lifeforce from a future time to give life to his creation. They're not the same Nemy. Unicron gave birth to one, Arkeville made another from a fragment of the first one... which was created after the second one. Wait, the first one's from the future... and the second one's from the past...? Ahh, headache!

Besides, Binaltech/Alternators branched off away from the regular timeline into its own storyline. It'll continue with Alternity, but that's all we know about it.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-12-19 19:27:51
lol, that's what I'm talking about. I guess I would be saying that mine is based off of Alternators for now. Considering he has Unicron's influence, which I am going to take as the Dead Matrix, and all. We'll see if he survives Alternity. If not, I'm just going to assume a similar influence made it to Classics and they eventually become the future incarnation... who then defects and starts training the new recruits... yadda yadda. I'm pretty sure that my fannon works out, when a few holes get filled in. Lord knows, though, that Hasbro/Takara can ruin it at any time though!
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-19 20:38:53
Yes they can. But doesn't the Classics fiction branch off from the G1 Marvel Comics (and ignores Marvel G2) instead of the cartoons?

Why, even the Henkei! Henkei! storyline is out of continuity with the cartoons. And they failed to produce their Black Convoy figure.
TPR on Girlfriend's CPU said,  - 2008-12-19 23:08:32
Yeah. There are like... 3... branching continuities from G1. Classics, G2, and Alternators. Then there is the 4th option which is the Japanese exclusive series that follow the American G1.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-20 00:53:57
Oh, you haven't seen anything yet. Get a load of this (outdated) list of continuities I found a while back:

Oh my god, I sure hope that guy looked that up and didn't just spew that off the top of his head. Otherwise, he need's to go outside or something...
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-20 21:03:36
What amazing is that there's still more than what he named. That list is still incomplete!

You know, I just realized something. This list would've been neat to have way back when we had our Canon/Fanon discussion thread. Everyone could've compared their personal continuities with the continuities listed here to see which is closest to each person's fanon.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
