Universe Leo Prime's bio revealed!

Posted by:
Sabrblade at 2008-12-31 2:55 pm
The TF08 forums have posted several images of the upcoming Universe leo Prime figure in his package. One of these images shows the back of his box and reveals his bio! Click here to see the images.

But the image is a little big and cuts off the bio. But if one right-clicks the image, copies & pastes it into a Word Document, and moves the image over, his bio is perfectly visible!

Here's what the bio says:
LEO PRIME is a career soldier, commander of an elite MAXIMAL black ops unit designated The Pack. So secret is his unit, even most of those in the MAXIMAL Command structure are aware of it only as a rumor. LEO PRIME and his comrades The Pack travel wherever trouble is thickest, often working undercover to deal crippling blows to PREDACON plots.

But can anyone explain the G1 Optimus Prime colors?
TPR on Girlfriend's CPU said,  - 2008-12-31 15:13:34
I'm sticking with my original theory that the colors are based upon the Beast Wars II pre-Earth design and color scheme:

Either that or just the typicoal red white and blue Optimus Prime colors.

Are ya happy I went looking for this for ya TPR?

ECSTATIC!!! I actually was looking around myself, but I was coming up dry! Thanks a lot, bud! It's going to be a Grand New Year!!

It IS the same Lio Convoy!
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-31 18:54:58
Now, all we need is some fiction to call him by this name and it's official.
TPR on Girlfriend's CPU said,  - 2008-12-31 19:26:18
Well, regardless, it's official. The only problem now is that it's not going to take precedence over the Japanese name until their is some fiction calling him this. Maybe if BWII ever gets dubbed, but as it stands, the comics are going to be resilient as hell and continue calling him Lio Convoy. That is, if there are going to be anymore comics...

when is the 2009 page going to be up?
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-12-31 22:54:40
Probably sometime in 2009, which starts in about ten minutes (for me).

I really doubt BWII will ever be dubbed, but there is still hope for it to be subbed. And if it ever is, and if they decide to use "Leo Prime " in the text, then that will probably take precedence over the comics with his "Lio Convoy" name.

But what I find interesting is that, despite the dispute between the "Lio Convoy/Leo Prime" names, there are still several people that can't spell and/or pronounce "Lio Convoy" correctly.

Very interesting. Certainly getting Leo Prime, Hound, and Cyclonus (Galvatron needs someone in his corner in my set)

Hmm... I still don't know how I feel about this mold. I must see it in person to decide. I like the character but prefer his original colors and mold, even though I do not have it.

In today's day and age, professionally subbing is zilch. They would dub BWII long before they subbed it. The only people who would sub it would be the fans, and fansubs are notoriously poor quality (but, admittedly, getting much better), as well as being notoriously true to the Japanese version. So a fansub would never use the English/American names.

I actually bought once along time ago some "DVDs" of BWII and Neo that are subbed and they are awful. There are things written over the halfway points of the episodes where the commercial breaks are supposed to be. Awful. Oh well. I've been working on a fandub for a long time (which is no secret, but it's pretty much just for fun anyway); I use the American names in it. Not that it gives it any credibility, but it makes me feel better...

Yeah, that spelling/pronouncing thing is really odd. I always see that and it boggles the mind. People who would fight with me about what the name is (which I was ultimately right about, HAHA!!), used to mess it up and I always felt like "how can you argue with me about this; you don't even know what the name is!?" Weird world we live in...

What about those professionally subbed Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory , and Zone DVDs? That's the kind of subbing I was referring to. The Headmasters DVDs used all the American names and terms for those whose names were different in Japan (with the one exception being Fortress, but still).

About your fandub, I'm curious as to what you'd call DJ, Motorarm, and Gimlet, since General Ramhorn, General Sea Clamp, and General Cicadicon already appeared in the American Beast Wars cartoon.

I've got some plans. I'm still working out the kinks, but I'm working on making them into the same characters as the American counterparts. If nothing else, I'll just end up using the names and make them separate characters from the Tripredacus Council. After all, I'm also using the name Silverbolt in exchange for Skywarp. In truth, it would be overall less confusing than using Silverbolt considering the three in BW "The Agenda" went unnamed in the actual show. WE know who they are, but so long as they are unnamed, it leaves little issue.

The subtitles on those DVDs only exist because the show was dubbed as well. It's my understanding that the DVDs have the English language track as well, correct? In that case I would have to say it's just like any other anime DVD of today. It has the English track, but then it also has the Japanese track and subtitles. They won't just release the show with subtitles without a dub to go along with it. It's just how the industry works.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-01 12:40:19
They do not all have the English audio track. Both the Metrodome and Madman releases of The Headmasters have the English audio track for all the episodes as a secondary feature, but it's a different case for each Masterforce and Victory set. Metrodome's Masterforce and Victory sets DO NOT have any other language option aside from the original Japanese track. Madman's Masterforce has the dub on SOME episodes, not all, just a few. But Madman's Victory set does have the dub on all the episodes.

Plus, Zone was NEVER given the dub treatment that HM/MF/V got. And yet, it was subbed too by both Metrodome and Madman. As was Scramble City by Metrodome, it was never dubbed, yet it got subbed.

That awful RTM 1 dub has little-to-nothing to do with those series being subbed officially.

Also, unlike most anime DVDs of today, the Japanese track is the main audio track, whereas most anime DVDs have it as the secondary track with the English dub being the main tack. The only reason that the dub is included on any of those releases is to A) give the viewers a taste at some bad acting, B) let the viewers see why the West never got the English dub, and C) let the viewers have some laughs.

The other thing to take into account here, Sabr, is that the dub and the DVD releases are not American. They're Australian and European, etc... In the American market, that's an unorthodox method. Hasbro said in response to your question that they were considering the DVD releases, I would be SHOCKED if they followed suit in this manner. I believe they would either: A) release the series with only the bad dub to follow suit with our DVDs of Armada, Energon, and Cybertron; B) release the series with the bad dub and the Japanese version with subtitles as an option; C) redub the series with American/Canadian voice actors and release that dub on the DVD without the Japanese voice track and subtitles.

Personally, I kinda think they'd go with option C because then they have the option of editing things out, such as swears and the old guy who flips off Star Saber in Victory. Granted, they could keep the bad dub and edit these things anyway...

I also kinda hope they would go with option C solely because then I may be able to get into the voice over business by then and then I may have a part in the series.

Likewise, a part of me would prefer them going with option A or B because then they don't have the option of changing the characters English names in a redub (one of the only redeeming qualities of the bad dub, if you ask me). Sure the bad dub has some issues with names, but it's kinda to be expected...
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-01 21:09:34
Oh, I'm surely hoping for either B or C, or a mixture of both: C with B's japanese audio with english subs. But I got the Metrodome versions on DVD for Christmas, so now I don't care if they come to DVD in the U.S. or not anymore... unless it gets dubbed good. I've already figured out who I'd want almost everyone to be voiced by in Masterforce, and a only a few for Headmasters and Victory. Like I SO want Clancy Brown to voice Scorponok in Headmasters and reprise the role as BlackZarak in Masterforce. And David Kaye to use his TFA Optimus voice for Ginrai. Any others?

BTW, how far in Masterforce are ya now?
TPR on Girlfirend's CPU said,  - 2009-01-01 23:42:35
I don't really have an opinion on who I want doing the voices. I just want it to get done. Overall, I'd want it to be done in the states so I could have a minuscule, minute, 1 in a million CHANCE to be involved in the dub.

I haven't had the chance to watch any of Masterforce yet. I've been trying to watch my DBZ dvds, and I've got Buso Renkin now, too. There's just too much!

I know what you mean. I've been trying to watch Smallville online, but I'm busy with my Gundam Wing and Transformers Victory DVDs.

So is this toy a rejected prototype? I'm talking about both color variations, not just the red version. I know it's sold only at Target. But I see what folks mean when they say the transformation is almost nothing. Could this have been a rejected prototype, maybe for the Predacon Razorclaw? & they decided to make a deal with Target by giving it Optimus Prime's face to help it sell more? I assume this isn't related to Leo Convoy? Maybe influenced by it? It would of been interesting to have seen this toy in normal lion colors with the original head they may have planned on marketing with. While I thought the white version of this toy was alright, yeah the red version could well be one of the worst looking Primes I've ever seen! Yellow may have been better and more accurate to what the original version may have been meant to look like if in fact this is some sorta rejected prototype.
Is it posible that maybe they released the white version to test market for the posibilities of releasing that Japanese Leo Convoy related Beast Wars anime series? It seems kinda hard to believe after all these years that Hasbro would do that now. I'd like to see someone custom paint this guy in the normal yellow and brown colors to see what Hasbro mave have originally planned , if in fact this toy (not color variation) is a rejected prototype of some sort. I know it lacks quality so I can see why Hasbro may have decided not to market it on a larger scale. The robot made does look half decent in white color. It certainly does remind one of Leo Convoy, but even Leo Convoy looked more like a normal red Optimus w/o having to color the whole lion red! U R right, a red lion makes little sense. This ain't Voltron! I wonder now if anyone ever colored red the original Primal apes or bat? I'd like to see that. However I suspect it too would look aweful.
