Coming Soon from IDW Comics...

ComicBookResources.com has posted a top notch write-up of announcements and images from IDW's panel at the SanDiego ComicCon.  Andy Schmidt led discussion to a crowd of ~70% Transformers fans revealing:

* An ongoing Transformers series to deubut in November, written by Mike Costa and art by Don Figueroa.
* Movie-continuity stories are being produced to feature Jetfire, Ravage, Arcee...
* There will be a Perceptor spotlight.  Which sounds great to me until he said it, "explains why he became so dark and brooding."  Hm, not sure I like the sound of a dark or brooding Perceptor, but we'll see...
* There will be stories featuring Bumblebee and Spike, as well as a Bumblebee mini-serieswritten by Zander Cannon and illustrated by Chee.
* Last but certainly not least, the announcements unveiled another new series written and drawn by Nick Roche:  Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers.

All sounds very promising!

It's funny how the new movie comics will focus on dead characters (or "rumored-to-be-dead", in the case of Arcee).

As a follower of the IDW-verse, I'm interested in just about all these (even with Perceptor's spotlight, although I'm not sure I like him having turned out being so dark either).
Haven't been following the movie books though...

As for Arcee, I was trying to figure out if she indeed was dead... I remember her trying to protect Sam, and then a bomb or something landing near her... so I take it there is no definite evidence that she is or isn't dead?

I am so behind on Comics, it's not even funny. I still need to pick up "Revelations" and the "Saga of the Allspark" books. Not too mention "All Hail Megatron," "Maximum Dinobots," "Alliance" and "Defiance," and finally, "Classic Transformers" vols 3 & 4. Ugh... one day I'll catch up...

haha that's funny TPR! Better put down the video games and start readin'.

Actually, I have a hard time w/ the IDW verse. I think I could stomach the yet-another-whole-new-continuity, IF they characters were drawn as some rendition of toys.

Don Figueroa could get away with every character having a new form in War Within because those were set roughly in continuity (or at least can be imagined as being a part of it, if you want it to.) Thus, the story justifies their new forms.

IMHO, IDW verse characterizations should be either G1-esque OR (even better) all drawn as their classics toys depict them. That's my 2 cents.

Alliance, Defiance were good.

I'm kinda hit or miss with the IDW-verse, in all honesty. There are some stories that I love (mostly Spotlights), and then others that I find rather dull.

I'll tell you what though, in complete honesty, I have some serious issues with the Beast Wars comics they put out. Simon Furman can write a good TF story (I personally prefered Budiansky's stories, but Furman can do good work as well), but he clearly didn't understand Beast Wars. I think we can all agree what made BW so great were the characters. Even the least developed of characters we knew very well. Furman really tried to just make another TF comic rather than have any of the heart of BW. Not only that, but he doubled his roster by convincing himself that the Japanese versions of characters weren't the same as the English counterparts. Sure, for some characters that works, but MOST it doesn't fly. Not to mention, they act as if the comics come after BWII and Neo, which doesn't make any sense when you actually know the shows.

I wish that instead of doing the BW comics they did, they just adapted BWII and Neo like they did with Armada's and Energon's comics. That at least wouldn't have been too bad.

What's even more wrong about the IDW Beast Wars comics using the BWII and Neo characters is the timeframe in which they appear in.

Originally, when those two shows aired, it was believed that they took place in the same future that the U.S. Beast Wars characters caem from. However, this idea is no longer applicable.

The current official position of BWII and Neo places them "Tens of thousand of years" into the future, WELL BEYOND the time of the Beast Machines cartoon.

Why such a forward move was made is beyond me, but now it would seem that BWII and Neo take place after EVERYTHING in the Japanese G1/Beast Era timeline.
