God I love AHM, can we talk about that for awhile? Kudos to Nick Roche. The Prowl/Springer/Kup/Perceptor story was one of the most compelling and thought provoking Transformers stories I can remember reading. Is Prowl being unethical???? I mean they're in the midst of a losing war here... I also particularly LOVE the depiction of Prowl in his Classics Universe self. Love it, love it, love it...

What do we think of the Don Fig art in the OP/Ironhide story? G1 meets movie-verse... I like it. Tho personally, I'd like it more if there were toys depicted like this. I can't help but wonder if something like this could be the future of the non-movie verse Transformers? G1 characters with a movie aesthetic, would make for at least a little more cohesiveness... hmmmmmmm

Perceptor,

To add to your discussion, I have been following AHM myself. I do also have an appreciation of Don's new style (looks to be the style to come in the new Ongoing Mission series). I also just liked the story too, fleshing out the friendship that Optimus and Ironhide have.
And then, as you mentioned, the Prowl/Springer/Kup story.
Kup's spotlight was an unexpected story, but it worked. I'll give it a thumbs up.
And then of course, we need to tell how Kup comes back from the state we see him in at the end of said issue.
And I do like the idea of Prowl being the the type to try and anticipate someones' every movement and response, but there is one major issue I have with the story: I don't care to the idea that Kup has been brainwashed.
He's a great character, one of my favorites in fact. I wish they wouldn't have done that.
A minor gripe I have is the Cy-Gar.
It was an interesting take on him to see him smoking a "cyber-cigar) in the main AHM storyline, gave him something a John Wayne feel to me. But then... it's basically a Nicotine patch for the crystals he was on? Could't Prowl and Perceptor have built a little module into Kups' new body the release the right dose of crystal radiation? That would certainly keep him from losing the Cy-Gar.
It makes the Cy-Gar seem a bit silly to me, but minor grip.
Other than those two points, good story.

You don't love the cy-gar???? Oh, I LOVE it, and the very nicely thought out explanation of its existence! I too have a special place in my heart for Kup, but I don't think he's been brainwashed. My interpretation is that the Kup that everyone sees is part himself, part spoken words/thoughts of Prowl, using him as a conduit for his tactical expertise... All the while Kup undergoes his psychological rehabilitation...

Prowl's actions may be unethical, they're at war and this does seem to work toward the greater good... hmmm So again, I ask is what Prowl doing "wrong?" I guess that's hard to answer considering that we still don't exactly know what he's done...

AHM is one of the best Transformer story lines to come out in the comic genre since War Within. I loved the Cy-Gar. Very Hannibal ala "A Team."

As far as Don's art... not so thrilled about it. I hear the opinion that it is merging modern movie with classic, but I just don't see it. WAY to organic for my taste.

Prowl... Hmm. He's doing what he feels is needed to end the war. At what point is this different than what Megatron would do? If you looked at what Megatron (ORIGINAL G1) was all about, the "Peace through tyranny" really was his desire for peace through his means whatever necessary.

The Cy-Gar... like I said, originally, I actually liked it, assuming it's purpose was to act like a humans' Cigar...
So for that purpose, I think it is a nice touch. I just don't like it being explained away like that. Otherwise, very fitting for a character like Kup.
But regardless, I still consider Kup to be brainwashed. Maybe not completely, maybe it's Prowl simply placing a few suggestive thoughts here and there, and the end result is Kup speaking some words or preforming actions that Prowl wants him to... only with Kup doing these things the way that Kup would.
I totally agree with Mainframe; what makes the Autobots better if they're willing to stoop to the level the Decepticons are? What is the price of victory? And where is the line drawn as to what it takes to achieve it?
There is a line between what should not be done, and I think Prowl has crossed that line. Maybe he isn't blasting his fellow Autobots in the back, but then, given the right circumstances, couldn't he justify such an action?
So how is Prowl any better than Shockwave? Or even Megatron?
I don't consider it part of the mainstream IDW continuity, but Megatron: Origins gives an interesting new look at Megatron. A worker who's livelihood is taken away, he kills an Autobot guard when a fellow worker speaks out about a mine shutdown and is killed... by an Autobot guard.
In the right light, one might even think Megatron is justified in creating the Decepticon faction. In that story, I believe Megatrons' original goal was to overthrow the Autobots and put up a new system, since there was corruption among the Autobots (and I'm assuming that corruption has been rooted out with the beginning of the rule of Optimus Prime).

So back to Prowl. You ask what Prowl is doing wrong?
Well, theoretically, what if despite everything, even through Kups mouth, Prowls' words still aren't received by those in power. What then? Should Prowl do the same thing to Ironhide? Springer? Hotrod? Maybe Optimus himself? How would brainwashing nearly the entire Autobot army be that much worse than just a single individual? This is a very slippery slope here, the type that can make real people go bad...
But it also could prove to be very good story material, material I do look forward to seeing fleshed out in the future (despite the fact that they did this to Kup, one of my favs'). And then there's the change of personality to Perceptor too... we'll have to see how that plays out.
