BotCon 2007 details

BotCon.com has been updated with details for this year's BotCon, which will be held from June 28 to July 1 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Some of the highlights are a pre-screening of Michael Bay's upcoming live action Transformers movie on Thursday, and a tour of Hasbro's headquarters in Pawtucket on Friday.

The exclusive boxset is announced to consist of Bugbite (presumably a repaint of Classics Bumblebee), Dreadwind (presumably based on Classics Jetfire), Thundercracker (presumably based on Classics Starscream/Skywarp), Dirge and Thrust (the latter two presumably based on the Ramjet retool).

Just to avoid complaints about this: The fact that Hasbro allowed Fun Publications to release Thundercracker, Dirge and Thrust as exclusives means that they (Hasbro) had no interest in releasing them on the mass market in the first place. So it'd be an "either they come out as BotCon exclusives or they don't come out at all" situation.

I'm not sure what Bugbite is based on. But, I may drop $300 for the rest of the seeker set.

Bugbite is based on this:
http://tfu.info/2004/Destron/BugBite/bugbite.htm

In 2004, Takara reissed a set of Minibots in Japan: Among them was Bumblebee with an all-new, cartoon-accurate head sculpt.

The inevitable e-Hobby repaints were partly based on prototype colors from an old Takara catalog, partly entirely new. The characters are all meant to be homages to the Tonka Gobots, but due to legal reasons (Bandai still owning the rights to Machine Robo), Takara refrained from officially identifying the Gobot homages by name.

Bugbite is probably based on the e-hobby exclusive G1 Gobot Bugbite
