You-Asked-For-It Prime

Wow.  After all the fans bemoaning that Movie Optimus Prime wasn't "G1" or "classic/box-y" enough, it appears some fans may get their wish.  A posting on Ray's Galleries (and HERE) shows fans the first glimpse of Optimus Prime from the new series to debut on Cartoon Network, "Transformers: Animated."  According to the posting,

"Optimus Prime, Megatron and a host of new characters will transform the airwaves next year as "Transformers: Animated" joins the kid friendly line-up at Cartoon Network.  Hasbro and Cartoon Network will partner on the 2-D animated series, which offers a new twist on the original series with each of the 26 episodes presented as a stand alone storyline featuring everyday heroes who do good deeds that triumph over evil.

The series kicks off as a Saturday morning series in January 2008 before expanding to 5 times a week later in the year.  A 90-minute special is also in the works.  The show co-produced by Cartoon Network studios will be supported on TV, "as well as through web-based initiatives, product partnerships, and promotional partnerships," says Michael Verrecchia Director of Marketing for Transformers."

Thanks to the Allspark for the heads-up on this sure to be hotly discussed image!

Oh my God...
I just lost all faith in TF: Animated. Dear God, let that be just work-in-progress art.

I'd like to see a CGI show again, but I know they run Transformers these days off a smaller budget.

Actually what I'd really like to see again is a show will well written stories. Armada wasn't so bad (can't say that for Energon, never watched Cybertron), but the stories weren't that imaginative. I'm sure many will agree that one of the many reasons Beast Wars was so good was because of the stories, Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio weren't writing a kids show, they were writing a sci-fi show (of course I love sci-fi).

Well either way I agree, that animation hopefully will get better. Who knows maybe after this show they could do a spin-off from the movie continuity, that might be interesting (whether it's cell animation or CGI, I doubt it would be live action like the movies).

Well... I can dream.

Why can't they put some effort into an animated Transformers series just like Mainframe did with the Beast Wars? Beast Wars won a few emmys if I remember correctly and totally tied back to G1 while give us the future of Transformers. The CG animations were top notch, the voice acting is even took up a notch over G1, and the story telling was better than ever -- a couple of episodes that reflect this is "Code of Hero", "The Agenda Parts 1-3", "Optimal Situation", "Master Blaster", and "Nemesis Part 1&2". Everything shown after Beast Wars series has not had the same effort put into the shows.

Robots in Disguise was dubbed into English w/so-so voice acting. Armada/Micron trilogy had Beast Wars voice actors with pathetically wrote episodes. Animations in Armada/Micron trilogy could have been better.

I wish they would make an effort to make a quality show worth watching -- one worthy of purchase when it goes DVD/Blue-Ray/HD-DVD.

What?! This stinks. They better reconsider. This will be the downfall of both Autobots and Decepticons.

This style of animation worked with Samurai Jack and the Clone Wars miniseries...but were talking about giant f***ing robots here, not Giant f***ing Samurai Clones who happen to be robots.

It's time these freaks went back to the drawing board or even better listen to the fandom. I'm tired of all these half-a**ed efforts...there is no wonder characters were not more noticeable with the silouette's released a month or so ago.

I was hoping transformers animated would revolve around the classics toys.

As a promotional first introduction, it would not be anything I would have ever expected.

Reminds me of recycling Superman with that extra wide inverted triangle upper body and stretch on Optimus on top.

Hopefully it will be good. Just make a good toy with a trailer.. heck with the show. Never watched Cybertron except a few episodes but like the futuristic fire engine.

Why? Why did they ruin transformers? I just don't get it. Why not just go back to the days of beast wars, where the show was GOOD? Since beast wars, the shows have gone down hill, and now look at what we have. A deformed and demented looking Optimus.

Optimus Prime is shaped like Johnny Bravo. Arcee and Elita-1 will slap the hell out of him. Hopefully they go through this one fast and get it over with quick. Don't forget that they're thinking of a second movie. I wish they'd continue with the classics line.

i hate to sound so grim but i honestly see a war ahead for us G1 fans. Not bad enough the movie is going to sprout a new generation of TF fans with no regard for the original universe, but hasbro is going to take advantage of these new minds to twist and take us original fans on some wild unknown ride to god knows where. I wouldn't be surprised if this new show and look actually DOES do WELL. G1 fans get ready to Roll For It!

Wow its really amazing how everyone bitches and moans so much just with one pic. There are plenty of TF fans out there that like one series but not another. Thats just how it going to be with something thats consistantly been around for so long. I admit I put G1 before all else and I DO have my personal preferences with the various incarnations. So its more stylized than you all are used to. Give it a chance and quit being such sissies about it.

I tell ya' what, though. This really blocky animation style makes the transition from the guy playing Spongebob Squarepants going to playing Starscream a whole lot easier. I'm pretty open with everything, really. I loved all the previous series, I've never had a doubt about the movie coming up, but this really scares me. Don't get me wrong, I was a big fan of the Cartoon Network cartoons like Courage the Cowardly Dog and Johnny Bravo, but this Transformers we're talking about. That random nature their cartoons have isn't really going to fly. Guess we're going to have to grin and bear it...

I'm with TPR and everyone else "Transformers: Animated" is going to suck. I think that the show should only be aired online at like "Toonami Jetstream". I mean heck I'd rather watch Beast Machines (the worst trandformers show/toy line released so far).

That is absolutely without a doubt the worst transformers animation I have ever seen! I am a hardcore G1 fan and I understand that with a franchise that lasts as long as the transformers that there is going to be change. What the HELL is hasbro thinking! They (hasbro) certainely will not have this fan watching this horse dung, good story or no. I really hate that after a great start at a stronger than ever return (ie.the movie) they are going to ruin it with this garbage!

I feel this "Transformers: Animated" series is just to balance everything out. A really good Transformers movie = a really BAD!!! Transformers cartoon series.

Hell, I think they should let robot chicken do the next transformers project. They use the real toys and it's hillarious!
Gotta say I'm a G1 generation who really liked beast machines and enjoyed watching the Cybertron series with my 6 and 4 year olds. For them, that is their G1 and I can live with that. Personally I think the pic is a little aweful, but this is the transformers of a new generation, I'll just have to give it a watch and see.

Okay.. I admit it. I said, very loudly, 'What the HELL is that supposed to be?!' when I saw the picture. But, then I sort of thought about it, and rationalized it. And, actually... I've sort of accepted it. I'm not going to start fuming and berating the show before I've seen it or anything, and this is why.
The original series, i.e. the ones from back in the 80's (which I grew up with), were made for kids back then. If you watch it, you can tell that. "Beast Wars" and its sequel, "Beast Machines" might not have been aimed specifically at younger kids, but it was still for kids.
Then you have the other series, which I'm randomly watching episodes of when I can find them online, or wherever I can. They too, are for kids.
The new movie coming out, its sort of for kids, but its more so, at least as I see it, for those of us who still love what we loved when we were kids. We've grown up with the series', and some of us have seen it on the big screen twice now.
So now we have another telivision series, produced by one of the largest children's telivision programming networks in the world, which is based off of something that has been around ALMOST as long as Star Wars, and which is equally as popular.
I think, honestly, that that says something. It says that there is a willingness to keep it going, regardless of how it is changed, or what format it is presented in, or what audience views it.
Take some of the toys. Not all of them are for older kids. That's why Playskool makes figures.
So, tell me, honestly; can you hold it against a series which has been around longer than some of ya'll have been alive, which is being re-adapted for a newer audience?
I, certainly, cannot.
The reason being that I had almost all but forgotten about Transformers, until I saw "Beast Wars" in high school. And I fell in love with it again.
So, give it a chance, and don't be too harsh, okay? ^_^

Words of true wisdom Duckie.

As my opinion in my original comment here says, I am not too happy with that image there, but I didn't go into an emotional outburst either. I hadn't really watched a full TF series since Beast Machines (which I didn't think was all that bad really). I'm not really that worried about it if this new show is presented in this fashion, because if the animation is bad then the stories may be good, and if not.. then like Armada and Energon I'll probably lose interest with the show and stop watching, then move on.

In the end, I'm still a Transformers fan.

Transformers meets Clone Wars animated series. I will admit I agree with fantomdranzerx, though I hope the toys aren't like this. I thought Optimus was supposed to be a fire engine but that looks like an ordinary truck.

Overhaul said,  - 2007-06-23 00:37:26
Ok, I think I see what they're going with...
Watching the StarWars Clone Wars series was a bit odd, but not too much. I had gotten used to it from the Batman/Superman cartoons from the 90's.
But to do this type of thing to the Transformers is heresy. I'd rather they simply not make the show.
I really can't say I've had a good Transformer fix since the Beast Wars, with the exception of the Dreamwave comics, and then IDW. Those guys should be making the new shows! C'mon, why can't Simon Furman be involved with a show???
What I hate so much is that the reset button has been pushed so many times with Transformers.
Ok, we had the comic and cartoon continuities up until the whole RiD bussiness started. And then after RiD, they reset again for Armada.
Plus, DW reset the comic series, andwe got another reset for the IDW universe. And now, of course, we have the movie coming out in July AND this cartoon.
Couldn't they have just tried to stick to fewer universes?

This really sucks, two words- BEAST WARS. They really need to go back to those kind of shows.
Chaos Bringer said,  - 2007-06-23 16:32:00
Ever since Beast Wars ended I have been trying to hide the fact that I am a fan of a kid's toyline and shows. I haven't been able to tell ANYONE outside of my family because the shows lately have been giving the franchise a bad reputation. My friends don't know about G1 or BW. All they know is the recent shows and their kiddy nature. The movie was really the light at the end of the tunnel. They finally looked cool to non-fans, the story wasn't kiddy, and everyone is excited about it. Best of all, the toys (the mainline ones) aren't for kids. Not once have I seen a kid anywhere near the movie toys, even the FABs. I am finally able to admit that I am a fan.

And now Hasbro decides to go and pull this sh*t on us. Gee, thanks. Now I'm going to have to keep it a secret again untill the next movie. Hasbro waited all this time and finally allowed myself to be proud of being a fan and they took it away from me so fast.

I would get the figure if it didn't have these proportions because the design seems remniscent on Star Convoy, but if the toys look like this than Hasbro will not make a single cent off of me. I will be talking to them about this. They WILL hear what I have to say. And I suggest that everyone else make sure that Hasbro hears you. we must unite and put a stop to this before it ruins the reputation of the franchise. HASBRO MUST BE STOPPED...NO MATTER THE COST...
