1993 Page Updated

Posted by:

The 1993 index page has been updated with names added above the boxes, some new boxpics and, oh yeah, the European toys. I make no claims as to the generation these toys belong to. But based on the faction symbols, I personally consider them G2. This may cause quite a stir, so let the responses fly.

To make matters even more confusing, some European 1993 toys were re-released in Europe in 1994, this time in "Generation 2" packaging (and it was not just the old packaging with the title changed either). In some instances, the "Generation 2" versions of those toys even got new names, even though the colors remained the same.

I hate it when that happens. Could we just say those that were rereleased from G1 into G2 are:

A) truely G1 figures and
B) survivors of the first generation of the Great War that went on to fight in the second generation

Also, weren't those yellow Constructicons previously listed in the 1992 Euro G1 section?

And, IIRC, weren't some of the G2 figures released in 1992? Cuz, according to Ben Yee's website (when it was still running), there were because he had his G2 toyline section spread over 1992-1995. Also, Hasbro's official product listing on their site lists G2 toys beginning in 1992.

And why does the BACK button on the computer not let a user go back when he/she visits a G2 page?

The later releases are another reason I consider it G2. Like how I put both names there? What's confusing me is Fearswoop. I researched that the 93 releases were in box and the 94 releases were on card. And Fearswoop was the 93 release and Black Omen the 94 release. But I found a Black Omen box and nothing for Fearswoop. Looks like there's only 10 European only toys left. Any guesses there?

G2 started to be released late in 1992, but to avoid confusion are listed with the G2 toys in 1993. The same is true of wave 1 of Beast Wars being released late in 1995. And I heard people swear that the toys of 1984 were available for Christmas 1993.

These are G2. Unlike the Turbomasters and Predators who have G1 insignias, these toys are clearly G2. I go by whatever insignia version the toy has to tell whether its G1 or G2. There's no argument because none of them have insignias from both generations. I don't know why anybody would think about considering these G1 or "G1.5".

The toys introduced in Europe in 1993 were G1 toys despite using the G2 sigils, as they had the G1 "TRANSFORMERS" logo, and there was no mention of "Generation 2". These were the Obliterators (Pyro and Clench), Axelerators (pink windows instead of smoky gray), Skyscorchers, Aquaspeeders, Stormtroopers, Lightformers and Trakkons.

All of those were rereleased in G2 packaging in 1994. The figures were identical, but the Obliterators were renamed Spark and Colossus, and the Lightformers and Trakkons were on blister cards instead of boxes.

So in Europe, 1984-1993 = G1, and 1994-1995 = G2.

Bass:
Check http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/tf/1993/pyro.html and http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/tf/1992/calcar.html and scroll down to the box pictures. See the difference?

The only difference between the 1992 and 1993 European packaging is the faction sigil used.

G1, G1.5 and G2 are all correct for the toys introduced in 1993 in Europe. The only thing to change for the G2 versions were the packaging and instructions. The toys were identical.

I consider the Euroformers G1.5. I don't think you can argue they are truly G2 when they were released without G1 box art - it would be like considering the European Classics (like Prime and Prowl) something other than G1 figures. But while I tend to think G1 ended with Action Masters, G1 makes more sense.
