25+ Year Anniversary

Posted by:

Okay, it's too soon to commemorate the 25 year anniversary of the Transformers, but not their older overseas-only predecessors!  Thought you might enjoy these old commercials I found including the "real" pronunciation of "Diaclone."

Diaclone Convoy, Triple Changer, Dinosaur Robo, Porche 935 Turbo, Powered Convoy, Construction Robo and European Autorobot GIG (check out those ridiculous missiles!!!)

strange, I feel tingly inside.The videos are almost creepy.What started out as unlicensed typical primitive fad toys(or so they thought)turned out lasting 25 years and influencing a million toys,games,movies,comic books, and collectible doodads. I say, a smart business move.I always thought it was *dye-slone*

WoW... I totally agree. these commercials show us a really important detail of TF history. from your every-Mecha series piloted Robot,to the unique machines portrayed in the movie.
I´ve thinking that a collection´s real purpose is to grab a little of that piece of toy history, to have the possibility to have side by side the legendary characters of old and the year´s promising rookies. Like mentors and students...
Or I´m just being too cheesy about it! Lol

I've always thought these old commercials were so cool and classic like. It gives me goosebumps.

Yup yup. Diaclone really just fills up my tf loving heart with joy. Its too bad the little inch men never translated. Its funny when you think about it powered convoy is technically the first prime/convoy with super mode. And what about that red devastator i saw?
Some of these figs should really have been reissued. I mean there are some like most recently black ironhide, but there's others like the original black megatron with maroon fists.

I like the classic feel to it, I'm one of those that grew up with Beast Wars so I wasn't around during the birth of Transformers, however I can appreciate history as much as the next guy.

You all pronounced it differently? I always thought it was "Die-a-clone" seems I was correct.

Ahh, "Dai-aa-...kuroooon". This brings back memories. I wish we could've gotten more of this series over here in the West. I think the whole "Diaclone vs. Warudar" deal was pretty neat.

Di-a-ka-roooon! HA! It doesn't bring back memories for me, but it sure is cool as a historical perspective (and I always used to hate history class! Now, I'm a regular historian!)

>>Some of these figs should really have been reissued.

Many of these have been as, e-hobby exclusives.

reason number 1,001 to love collecting transformers! You can practically NEVER run out of fun new interesting things to learn/see or collect!

Another thing that is cool about these commercials is that they're almost like the stop motion vids your average Blasten Blaster cranks out in his spare time! :)

It's interesting how they have the price of Powered Convoy written right there in the commercial. I've never seen them do that here.

Here's a list of some of the Diaclone-colored reissues that e-Hobby's done:

* Road Rage - red Tracks
* Crosscut - gray Skids w/ different head
* Silver Chromed Streak - silver chromed Bluestreak
* Clamp Down - police Red Alert
* Deep Cover - black Sideswipe
* Zaptrap - red Shrapnel
* Salvo - red Bombshell
* Shot Hole - red & green Kickback
* Overcharge - dark green and off white Blitzwing
* Magnificus - black Perceptor
* Ironhide "Protect Black version" - black Ironhide

Other non e-hobby Diaclone reissues include:

* Movie Preview Ultra Magnus - Magnus as seen in early TF:TM previews/colored like Powered Convoy
* Tigertrack - yellow Sideswipe

I'm sure ther's more, but that's all I can think of.

Big missiles, the cars fighting each other, and the overall plot of the commercials...I am so glad Hasbro dumped these ideas!
mkbauch said,  - 2008-06-19 18:22:56
Aww, come on Jumpercliff...you weren't inspired by the sight of a convoy of Convoys, or the battallion of Ultra Magnai (plural of Ultra Magnus?) Its funny to be reminded that the Tranformers actually started out as mech units, and that Ultra Magnus was originally a mech unit for a mech unit. Seriously though, thank GOD we found a way of interjecting a plot into this stuff.

And they only had those giant missiles when GiG sold them. The regular Takara releases had normal missiles.
megatron said,  - 2008-06-19 21:48:43
that would be cool if takara reissued diaclone prime and trailer with the word diaclone on the trailer and lets not forget the diaclone drivers. now thats a request from me to takara please send the message.

Well, someone did make Diaclone-sized figures of G1 Spike and Sparkplug awhile back.

It's funny really that Transformers is more popular than ever now and with so many new fans it's kind of like the new Star Wars. And yet for so many of us, we've been fans for the past 25 years! I can still remember being in the sixth grade and seeing a commercial for the very first issue of Marvel's original G1 comic.
