TFW2005 has posted another outstanding Q&A with Revenge of the Fallen writer Robert Orci.  Of particular interest to this site was his response to the question asked by Starscreamer95: If you could choose any character for TF3 who would it be?

Robert Orci:  "Unicron, for scale sake!

Wow!  I sure didn't expect that response! Check out his full list of most recent Q&A responses HERE.

YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Wow! That would be amazing if they were able to pull that off!

It sounds more like he's saying he would WANT Unicron to be in TF3, not that he IS.

But there's still hope.

I'm actually good with Unicron not being involved in the live action movies. Yes, I know how much a part of TF history he actually is, but lets face it, we've seen the really good story with him in it, and we've seen the Unicron trilogy that just paled in comparision. Let the story stand as is and make the TF live action movies their own animal. Besides, the toy of the live action Unicron would fall horribly short of the film character anyway. There is no way you can do Unicron right without him being massive, and thus massively over priced. Granted I know a few people who would be more then happy to shell out $1,000.00 + for a six foot tall transformer.

>>It sounds more like he's saying he would WANT Unicron to be in TF3, not that he IS.

Correct, of course, but if the WRITER of the film wants it, then that is one MASSIVE, Unicron-sized step in the right direction!

I'm also in agreement w/ Sidewinder. If no Unicron in the movies, I won't mind, for all of his well put arguments outlined above.

... and oh hell yeah! I'd shell out $1,000 for a 6 foot tall Unicron toy!!

I'm kind of hoping they don't put Unicron in the movies, pretty much for the same reasons Sidewinder mentioned, although I don't feel terribly strong about it. At the very least, I would hope Unicron would be saved for the last of the films, but maybe foreshadowed in some of the movies leading up to it (do I recall correctly that Micheal Bay was thinking of making this a five films series?).
But yes, Transformer lore is rich with a variety of characters and scenarios to port over to these films, so not much need to bring Unicron over.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-15 15:30:10
Yes, I too agree with that, Sidewinder.

The only logical way he could be made in-scale with the movie figures is if he were made to be in scale with the Legends class fiures. And I really don't like collecting those.

I go for the regular sizes of Basic/Scout, Deluxe, Mega/Voyager, Ultra, and Super/Leader; only buying Supreme if it's of a character that needs to be in that size.

If unicron was in the movie, i wonder what his planet mode would look like? And even more than that the robot mode.
Autobutt said,  - 2009-01-15 15:53:15
If Unicron was in a TF live action movie, then he most likely wouldnt be a planet. Without Unicron being a planet, just leave him out of it. I say hes not needed in this movie series.
Jumpercliff said,  - 2009-01-15 17:38:31
Okay, they'd have to get somebody who's big in name to play Unicron. Not just James Earl Jones or somebody like that, I mean an actor from yesteryear, like they did with Orson Welles back in '86. It's too bad Ricardo Montalban passed away today, he would have been great.
Cheetor2 said,  - 2009-01-15 17:51:14
I'm sorry to say it but I think Unicron should just be left out. Don't get me wrong, I love the character but I don't think he would be a good fit for the movie continuity.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-15 18:19:57
Well, Jumpercliff, how about Bill Cosby (but with his voice heavily-modified via computers)?

And, instead of being a planet, here's some nice fan art of a hypothetical version of Movie Unicron:

I'd love to see Unicron in the movie, and it could be done relatively realistically, even as a planet (which is a must). How they'd translate his apprearance into the movie aesthetic while still making him completely recognizable as Unicron would be interesting.
Jumpercliff said,  - 2009-01-15 19:03:48
Bill Cosby?????? Doc Huxtable as Unicron??????? That's nuts! How about John-Rhys Davies, Ian McKellen, Sean Connery, or B.B. King?
s cren said,  - 2009-01-15 19:21:32
unicron would be coo but how would they show him fighting the other robots it would be CARNAGE!!!
Sidewinder said,  - 2009-01-15 20:04:15
Well, Sabrblade, I took a look at the link you offered. I don't know about that look for Unicron, looks more like a giant wasp. But, a friend of mine had an interesting idea for Unicron, let's see what ya'll think: Instead of a massive planet sized transformer, he's actually closer to the size of a small moon, and burrows into the planet, draining it of all natural resources from the inside out. Then, he blows up the planet around him and moves on to the next, leaving death, destruction, and asteroid belts in his wake. That could scale him down to work better within the transformer toy lines.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-15 20:20:47
That kinda sounds more like F4:RotSS's version of Galactus.

And, while that is the final version of the guy's fan art, the drawing previous to it was the same, but lacked the energy wings.

Also, in the G1 episodes "The Ultimate Doom", we can see that Cyberetron is about the size of Earth's moon. And, in the G1 movie, Unicron is a little smaller than Cybertron itself. So, Unicron has already been smaller than the size of our moon, and yet he's still considered "planet-sized". What's up with that? O_o
Autobutt said,  - 2009-01-15 22:46:50
Whoa hows that for scale!
It doesnt really make sense for Cybertron to be bigger than Earth, considering Cybertronians are a lot bigger than us. That doesnt really make sense saying that the planet has to be scaled with the inhabitants, but ive always thought Cybertron to be bigger.
Overhaul said,  - 2009-01-16 20:43:32
In response:
Bill Cosby??? I'm not seeing it. I think James Earl Jones makes a much better fit as Unicron, or even any of the other actors Jumpercliff mentioned (although good luck trying to get Sean Connery out of retirement for the role!).
Sidewinder: Interesting idea, although I'm not sure I'd like to see it implemented. To drain the resources from the inside? Just sounds like it would take some time, as opposed to a huge dreadnaught planet that would simply gobble up the world.
Autobutt: Just because Cybertronians are bigger than humans, that doesn't mean they have the have a bigger planet. My impression is that Cybertron never really had a population size of several Billion like Earth... and also, Cybertron has no oceans taking up surface area either. On top of that... much of Cybertron's inner structure is made up of rooms and corridors, a good amount of room for those Cybertronians not on the surface.
Overhaul said,  - 2009-01-16 20:43:56
Speaking of size and scale, my response to Sabrblade is this: what in the G1 shows and movie makes you think that the creaters of the show paid a great amount of attention to making things scale? When a space shuttle and army jeep Transformer are roughly the same size? Or how about MotorMaster being about as tall as Optimus when he's both the semi truck and the trailer, while Optimus is simply a semi trucks' cab?
One last comment about scale: correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm getting the impression that some folks are neglecting that compared to a human being, or even a 30 Ft robot, to an object the size of our moon, or even slightly smaller, is MASSIVE.
Let's do some math.
30 Ft (which I'm assuming is movie Optimus Primes' height) is equal to 9.14 m.
Our moon (Lunar) has a diameter of about 3474.8 Kilometers (3,474,800 Meters).
Just for the sake of argument, let's pretend that our theoretical movie Unicron's height (in robot mode) is equal to our moons' height.
Sooooo.... imagining a 1 Inch transformer figure, a scale Unicron would have to be 37,418.8 Ft. (7 miles)tall! One awesome figure, but could easily be mistaken as a threat to national security. I just wouldn't want to have to transform him.
On the other hand, if you want your smaller six foot Unicron, a scale Transformer would have to be around .000016 feet tall.
Yeah, sorry for taking up some room (and possibly boring some other fans out there). I can sometimes be a dork like this.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-16 21:41:33
1. I was just pointing out the size deal with Earth, the moon, Cybertron, and Unicron in G1. It was not meant to be taken so seriously.

2. The Cosby thing was just a joke. Okay?

3. Who says a Unicron toy has to be in scale with the other figures? The Armada/Energon toy wasn't. He was as tall as Tidal Wave should've been. But, if they wanted to make a scale-accurate toy of Unicron, it would have to be one that would be in-scale with the Legends class figures.
Overhaul said,  - 2009-01-16 23:17:44
Sorry man, I completely missed that it was all a joke. I still kind of enjoyed figuring the whole scale thing out though. I like playing "what if" games, but apparently went a tad overboard this time.
Personally, again I'd settle for a 12in + Unicron figure, assuming he's awesome enough to convince me to buy him...
all in all though, I think I'm more interested in seeing some movie combiners though *hopes the rumors of Devestator in Transformers 2 are true*.
Sidewinder said,  - 2009-01-17 00:02:32
Oh, don't sweat it Overhaul. I completely agree that the original creators and writer had no concept of scale, nor did they care. And, really, it makes sense to monkey with such ideas as scale. If you've got say Bumblebee, who turned into a two door vehicle, fighting Blitzwing, a tank AND a fighter jet, it would be really hard to fit them in the same frame without some wide panning shots. There could be very little inter personal character interaction. One of the things I love about TF Animated was that shot in one episode where Blitzwing was facing off against Bumblebee. It was a essentinally a wide shot with each character at opposite ends of the screen and Blitzwing was huge compared to BB, as he should be.

The current writers are paying a bit more attention to scale now (with the exception of Prowl) and allowing the writing to flow around that, but they still need to fudge here and there for story sake. Same thing with the live action movie. Starscream should have been massivly larger then Optimus Prime, jet his character model had to stand shorter then him. The scene were Prime is holding the pair of glasses up, those lenses should have been at least half a foot in diameter for that shot to work. Sometimes in writing you have to make sacrafices in reality for the sake of the story. Heck, Steve Speilberg made a point in making Jaws during the final fight scene where they blow up the entire shark with one well placed shot to an air tank and those around him said "that wouldn't happen", he responded "At this point, I've got the audience, they'll believe anything I'll tell them."

Sorry, I can get a bit verbose about these things.

Wow, I just hope it's isn't another Galactus from FF2 movie, if anyone remembers that movie, or should I say disaster, Galactus was like the Unicron of the Marvel world and they protrayed that character in that movie as poor as possible. If he's in it, please take your time with him and make him kick ass! Oh, on a side note, I see that they are making new made up characters to kill off in the movie, instead of killing off Jazz. Bye bye Jolt, we hardly knew ya!
Bruticus_42 said,  - 2009-01-17 20:49:03
Cosby as Unicron...I can see it now, Unicron slowly coming towards Cybertron, he transforms and speaks..."Pudding Pops!" Then looks at the Transformers and says to them, "the Allspark brought you into this world, and I can take you out!" No? *Crickets*

two words for the voice actor for unicron: Chuck Norris.

all he would need to do, is round house kick the planets into oblivion!

Why dont they use one of the heralds of unicron like galvatron in the G1 series? :D

How bout VIN DIESEL for the voice of unicron, he has the rusky voice, and would fit better than Bill Cosby, or Chuck Norris
