Multi-Crossover Sneak Peek Look - Infestation

As we come near to wrapping up 2010 and prepare to move into 2011, let us take a look at IDW's next biggest event: Infestation. Set up as a multi-license crossover, this deals with a zombie outbreak occurring in the world of of the Zombies vs. Robots series, which then proceeds to transcend into the worlds of four other properties: Transformers, Star Trek, G.I. Joe, and Ghostbusters. These four worlds do not crossover with each other directly (i.e. you won't see Optimus Prime, Spock, Snake Eyes, and Peter Venkman all teaming up to fight a zombie army together, however awesome that would be), but they do all fight against the same antagonists from within each of their own respective worlds. This decision was made in order to not mess with the established continuities of each series' reality.

The blog of IDW's editor-in-chief Chris Ryall has put up sneak peek images of the first issue to kick off the series, Infestation #1, and the first tie-in book for the series, Transformers: Infestation.

GUYS! THIS IS AN IDW EVENT! They can only use licenses that they own the rights to!

Besides, it's not like they'll all be teaming up together. No one's gonna meet each other. Each fight will be self-contained in their own worlds.

Besides, Power Rangers is an absolute no-no! Do you know how badly their inclusion in this would damage the continuity of that series? VERY! It's already in a shaky position, what with RPM's unknown setting time-period and Samurai still in development.

We've already got FIVE worlds colliding! Why make this even more complicated by adding even more?

And depending on how well this is pulled off, Infestation could turn out to be either the greatest thing in nerd history, or the biggest disaster to ever plague comic books. We have no way of knowing which way it'll go. So, don't be trying to force your favorites into something that has a 50-50 chance of being either great or terrible.

I'm not much of a comics reader, but this sounds pretty interesting. I'll probably wait for the trade paperback though, just so I don't end up confused as to which issues to buy.

Hey, as long as we're wishing for crossovers that will never happen, howzabout Transformers with the Brave (aka Yuusha) series? Optimus Prime vs. Gaogaigar? Devastator vs. Super Build Tiger? Shockwave vs. Gun Kid? Ooh! I got it! Grimlock vs. Dino Geist!

Again, this is not a direct crossover, it's an "indirect" crossover. The only thing that is actually going to interact with other-world characters is the zombie army from "Zombies vs. Robots". Everything else. Will. Not. Be. Meeting. Each other.
