The Commemorative Series returns to Toys 'R' Us!

Back in 2002, Toys 'R' Us began a new Transformers toyline exclusive to their store chain called the "Commemorative Series". This line consisted entirely of rereleases of several Generation One figures, but with some minor alterations due to the current toy safety laws. The toyline slowly met its end around 2004 and was never heard from again... until now!

A few weeks ago, Cybertron.ca member megashockwave had found an interesting item in the Toys R Us Canada Computers.

TRANSFORMERS UNVRS G1 COMMEMORATIVE SRS
($49.99, SKU: 847585, UPC: 653569444213)

With "September 2009" as an estimated shipping date.

More recently, TFW2005 member and Toys 'R Us employee ChErikS has confirmed the identify of several Generation One reissues that will be part of this Commemorative Series revival. During one of the company's meetings, it was confirmed that four of these reissuses will include the Insecticons (Shrapnel, Kickback, and Bombshell) and, a personal favorite of one of Unicron.com's head admins, Perceptor!

That's neat. I sure hope it's not like 50 bucks for each one though, like, a 3 pack for 50?
Byrerprime said,  - 2009-05-28 05:28:45
I think that's 50 Canadian. The US would likely be 34.99 or 39.99.

Perceptor is bought. ^^

id buy both of them in September. I can't wait. Will there be a Megatron/Galvatron coming soon?

OH-MY-GOD! Perceptor AND the Insecticons! Soooooooo getting them!!!!!

@dave:
As long as the current toy safety laws stand, G1 Megatron will never be rereleased in the U.S. ever again.

Geez, you think they'd thing Megs was the real thing if they didn't see the OBVIOUS Decepticon symbol in the handle/legs. This is why I won't be able to get him or the Classics version until I'm in college. My mom hates things that look like guns in our house, and yet we have a box of Super-Soakers....
chrombot said,  - 2009-05-28 19:16:16
they cant release megatron in gun like colors. Silver, black, browns, ect. They could, legally, release him in neon colors. I dont think there's a legal color combination that would be worth releasing for megatron.

That's good news. I might just try to find myself a Perceptor.
As for Megatron, even with the Decepticon symbol, isn't that just a sticker on G1 Megs? And since G1 figures (and all the reissues I've seen) have all the stickers on sheet and need to be applied, Megatron would still look like a lot like a real gun.
Sorry to hear about your mom not even wanting you to have Classics Megatron. Wow, and I though my mom was too strict when I was a kid.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-05-29 08:31:31
You call that strict? My parent don't even want me collecting Transformers just because they T-O-Y-S.

I'm a bit luckier than both you and Jumpercliff Sabr. My mom and gran just hate that I'm so extremely into it, but otherwise they don't discourage it alot. I'm actually lucky enough to have the best reissue Megatron ever got which is the Collection 6 version with the mace.
As far as commemorative goes what I really hope for is a Thrust and Ramjet. I just think that after Takara reissued (on a limmited scale) all six seekers and managed to release all six seekers on a wider scale in Henkei, Hasbro can at least after 5 years give us the other 2 (and maybe sunstorm :)). Anyway I'm glad we're getting some more reissues over here, and gg to Hasbro for bringing it about again. The one thing I wonder is are they gonna have mostly DW boxart or new boxart or the original pics?

I'd love to see wheeljack and Shockwave re-issues :D
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-05-31 19:15:45
They can't reissue Wheeljack because they lost the mold.

Insecticons!? Cool, Lets hope for reissues of the Dinobots!
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-06-12 09:29:51
They can't do the dinobots either. They lost their molds too.

If a knock off exists in China then Takara Hasbro can reissue it as well. Making new molds of old toys is easy. It's simply a matter of will. I'm tired of people saying they lost the old molds. So what! Most of the reissues use NEW molds based on the old molds. With that being said It's time for Takara/Hasbro to attack the knockoffs. No excuses. Make the Dinobots. Add Mirage, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, to the Autobots. Decepticons should be Shockwave, Rumble and Frenzy, and the Constucticons. If not as Commemoratives then as Encores. Serious collectors will find them one way or the other. Thrust and Ramjet would be nice to. They exist but they are very limited (only a 1000 each) and expensive. Don't expect Bandai G1 Transformer reissues because of licensing agreements. No Jetfire, Roadbuster, Whirl, and the Deluxe Insecticons.

Just rumor but Blaster vs Rumble, Frenzy and Overkill might be Encore reissue Big Mission VOL.3. Vol 1 was Ravage-Buzzsaw Vs Eject-Rewind (Encore #15). Vol 2 to be released the end of this month is Steeljaw-Ramhorn vs Ratbat-Slugfest (Encore #17). Encore has done Metroplex and Bruticus. Let's see Trypticon, Menosaur, Superion and Defensor. TRU might get Blaster some time in the future as well. Maybe packaged with his four cassettes like the SDCC Soundwave that is coming up. Just rumors so don't hold your breath.

Confirmed #18 encore will be Autobot Skids. Here is an idea for e-hobby. Recolor skids to lime green and use the silver crosscut mold to do Mudflap in dark red. Crosscut was the e-hobby silver skids with a different head mold sold a few years ago at the same time as TFC #3 skids.
