I saw the midnight showing of the movie, and it is frakking (frag?) great! A lot of action sequences. They could have fleshed out some of the plot a little more, especially the Fallen. Do not expect an Academy Award for the movie writing, buy do expect it for the action and special effects. Go see it.4 out 5 stars for me.

I can't watch it until this weekend because of the shift I'm on this week, I could have watched the midnight showing last night. But I didn't want to deal with the crowd. I would've ended up telling people to shut the hell up! I definitely can't wait to see it.

Really disappointed by the lack of Jolt, Ratchet, Sideswipe, and the Arcee bots and even more upset about the large amount of talking. The action sequences were amazing though and the jokes (even though some may find them distasteful) were always fresh. Still not as good as the first one though. It really wasn't THAT bad...

And how they referenced Masterforce AGAIN with the flying Optimus!

I loved it, which seems to be putting us in the minority. It seems to have a lot of haters, but what's most impressive, is the people hating HAVEN'T seen it.

I left the first film without a favorite character in the series. Which I think is understandable, after all, the only Autobot in first HOUR of the movie is Bumblebee and the others weren't really fleshed out. I went into RotF expecting Jetfire to be my favorite as I really liked him in the trailers. What I didn't expect was leaving with Optimus being my favorite! Holy Crap! The scene in the woods was Amazing! Every fight Optimus was in he wrecked house! Incredibly satisfying.

>>"And how they referenced Masterforce AGAIN with the flying Optimus!"

Don't forget Alice as a Pretender. And the whole Prime + Jetfire is more like an Armada reference. After all, it wasn't Prime flying in Masterforce, it was Ginrai, a very different character.

I think many will react to the movie like people have reacted to other forms of media in the past like comic books, rock and roll, and even movies at one point in time. If you compare it with other comic book type movies like 300 or the punisher (mainly the violent type comic movies not the sissy ones like most of marvel + dc) or even the comic books themselves it was actually kind of mild. For instance TF2 had sex jokes but 300 had a long drawn out sex SCENE. Yes the rating was PG13 on TF2 and I wish they would tighten their rules some but that doesn't detract much from the movie. All my criticism comes from me being more used to TF cartoons than TF comics. If you realize it is being more of a comic type movie it is great stuff. It reminded me of terminator or battletech/mechwarrior which I've always wanted to have a mechwarrior movie.

>>"What racist moments are you and others talking about Said?"

I don't know if he means this or not, but some people are thinking that Skids and Mudflap are racial stereotypes.
budgrimlock said,  - 2009-06-25 11:59:31
Optimus Prime DID NOT DIE in TF2. Transformers are PLANT-like in their ability to regenerate. You can beat them to a pulp, but they can regenerate with the right energy...and the right convoluted running sequence featuring Shia LeBeouf and Meagan Fox. They run in circles while getting shot at by superintelligent flying robots with NO AIM whatsoever and miraculously end up right where they need to be, so the alien robot technology can perform a miracle and end the movie. Just like the first movie. Let the Star Trek guys write Start Trek Movies. Bring in transformers people to write TF3, TF4, TF5, and TF6: Transformers Animated The Live Action Movie, starring Kiefer Sutherland as Capt. Fanzone.
Kiefer Sutherland as Capt. Fanzone - that would be funny.

To answer a previous question, yes, I found Skids and Mudflap racial stereotypes. They can actually use some accents, like they did with Jetfire, who seemed like a cockney punk, but they didn't have to make the twins talk like illiterate black guys - Remember these robots are suposed to be superior alien creatures.
A robot pretending to be an old guy, also seems stupid, as so Bumblebee crying.

In 1986 animated series, Kup was an old robot, and not so idiotic like an old man with a cane.

I say, even Transformers R.I.D. wasn't as bad as this movie.
cyberwuss said,  - 2009-06-25 12:42:29
I find it odd that when two robots in a movie show up acting like rappers it is a racial stereotype but when rappers act like rappers it is not and they sell millions of CDs with the lowest type of character (lower than any movie like TF2/Robocop/ANYTHING can dish out).
leohoss15 said,  - 2009-06-25 13:24:42
I have to disagree with you Said on the racial stereotyping of Mudflap and Skids. I thought of them as typical teenagers in their manner of speaking and behavior.I did not find them offensive and I'm a black man.
nakobass said,  - 2009-06-25 13:41:03
I'm black to, and I loved Mudflap and Skidz. The people who actually think all black people talk like that are the real racists. I was in a Theater full of Black people, and they loved it. Nobody thinks its offensive except uptight assholes who can't take a joke.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-06-25 13:41:43
The people who are claiming that the film was racist/sexist don’t know that they are talking about.

In the first film, Jazz was the “black” guy and everybody LOVED him. He was cool, he had personality, and then he died, which was a play on “the black guy always dies first in movies” thing. When he first appeared, Sam asked how Jazz knew to talk like that, to which Optimus told him that they had learned Earth’s languages by studying the internet.

Now we have Skids and Mudflap who are rookies, kids. As I was in the bathroom before the movie, a kid came in yelling “Aww SNAP!” in the same way of speaking as the twins did. Kids talk that way because it is “cool”; Skids and Mudflap are kids, and they learned to talk that way from US. If anything, it’s not racist, it’s a social commentary on the youth generation.

But THEN everybody is up in arms because the twins “can’t read.” WRONG. The twins say they “don’t do much reading,” at no point did they say they CAN’T read. Nevermind the fact that NO ONE could read the symbols except a Prime, but god forbid that the twins can’t either. For that matter, how many of us can read Earth’s ancient languages? Latin? Hieroglyphics? I sure can’t, and I’d be willing to bet that not too many people in the world can either. Clearly a racial stereotype.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-06-25 13:41:57
Now, those are both fictional world justifications, so let me give some real world explanations. How BORING are Ironhide and Ratchet? They have NO screen time because they have no personalities. So, we’re saying we’d rather have the twins speak in perfect American English just like Optimus and the others. That’s pretty lame. At least the twins had personalities. Nevermind the fact that EVERY animated series has had characters with different dialects in them somewhere: G1: Tracks, Cosmos; BW: Ravage; BM: Botanica; RiD: X-Brawn; etc… I don’t remember anybody ever having problems with them… I guess it must be just because the twins were “black.”

Seriously, though, if they had wanted the characters to have been “racist” in the way that people are claiming they are, they would have left the twins as that beat up ice cream truck, made them Decepticons, and killed them first. Get over it people.

..............WOW! I have to go see this movie again so that I can soak up all the action-y goodness! I didn't expect there to be so much character development between Jetfire and the Herp and Derp Twins! This movie was fantastic!! Far better than the first. I laughed at Megatron's line after he got blasted in the face, "STAWSCWEAM!". Overall, A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE! My only complaints about the film is that the Fallen didn't do as much damage as I had anticipated but still.

GREAT MOVIE!

I completely forgot to give my two cents on the movie.

The movie was fantastic!

My only gripe with the movie is that it had too much cussing, and too much excessive, unneccesary innuendo. It's NOT funny! Give the Twins a filter and get rid of the exaggerated potty humor, and you got an incredibly awesome movie!

I give it an 8.8 out of 10 instead of a better score just because of the dirty humor.
I do not need that everyone of you agree with my opinion - I found it racist and sexist. If you do not agree, fine by me. I have the right to have an opinion, don't I? And it can be different from yours, can't it? Isn't that what we call freedom? - the right to an opinion? I respect yours, and so should you respect mine.

But, that wasn't by far, the reason why Transformers ROTF disapointed me.
I did like the first movie, was expecting more, much more from the second - more of the Transformers story or history, just like they did in movies such as X-Men.
And it was all about, fighting, beating each other and firing all the way.

My memories of the Transformers shows and the comics weren't like this. I remember Optimus words to the autobots, before a battle. I remember autobots with personalities, and they weren't dumb.
I remember autobot scientists like Perceptor or Wheeljack, though characters like Brawn, double faced characters like Mirage. I remember Bumblebee talking. I sure don't remember Autobots that dumb, except the Dinobots.

I remember also decepticons destroying military bases with their superior fire power.
Maybe I'm a purist - maybe I'm wrong. But I know that I didn't like this Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen movie.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-06-25 16:00:52
That's fine by me. You can have your opinion all you want, that's not my issue. I expect there to be haters just as much as I expect there to be lovers; it's the racist things that I take issue with. You can hate it all you want, but the racist argument is flawed.
Bumblebee said,  - 2009-06-25 18:13:32
Budgrimlock, this movie is definately better than that animated sack of crap. Now, my own opinion. THIS WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE! I'm serious, I haven't ever seen a better movie. Screw all of the critics. It wasn't boring and the action scenes are amazing. It was the perfect movie. What's your opinion.
cyberwuss said,  - 2009-06-25 19:53:26
On the racism topic I just want to say that my favorite human character in both films was the soldier played by Tyrese. He has had good performance in both movies and I dont see how a movie that makes a black character more interesting than all the others is racist to blacks. I also agree with the fact that g1 had black sounding autobots like jazz. (and I am white btw) The portrayal of skids and mudflap only disappointed me because of the cursing and not the closeness to rappers I was thinking of them as white poser type rappers and I can safely say that while I'm not a racist Tyrese's character made me have more respect for blacks (I dont use the term african american because I am talking about blacks everywhere from australian natives to african etc) That is saying alot when the only other show/movie I have seen where my favorite character was black were A-Team with Mr.T and Jericho with Robert Hawkins (character name).
BW 1 said,  - 2009-06-26 00:19:09
People need to stop making excuses for how clearly racially insensitive the Twins and Wheelie, among many other characters, are. Sure Jazz was funny and cool in the first movie, but thats because he didn't lay it on so thick about how 'black' he was. And the only things that pointed out how 'black' he was was his voice, and everything else is pretty racially uncertain.
But when you have characters like the Twins and Wheelie who have absolutely no redeemable and intelligent qualities to justify how blatantly obscene they are in their characterizations it just feel like Michael Bay is just having the characters be that way 'because he can.' The Twins definitely are not a commentary on the youth culture, because there are so absolutely obscene and vulgar in their characterizations. Not only that but to say that the way they talk is justified by the fact that they acquired our language through the internet is stupid at this point because they've had two years to appropriately adapt and correct the utterly stupid way they talk. And the Twins definitely CANT read, if you're ignoring the fact that Bay was painting them as jibbin' and jivin', illiterate, monkey-looking stereotypes, you're just in denial. The problem is that people are getting hung up on just the Twins and are forgetting all the other mindless humor at the expense of a bunch of other racially extreme characters like Wheelie and the stupid workers at john turturros deli.
and I'm not even going to get into how blatantly sexist the film is. I'm sure guys love watching the camera have sex with megan foxx every time she's on screen, but come on, at least show some taste and moderation!
Scorpomike said,  - 2009-06-26 07:59:56
How can two robots talking slang be racist? The movie White Men Can't Jump, that's racist. Take a look at the damn title! But that's okay, black people are making fun of white people, I'm sorry that's acceptable!
NoRemorse79 said,  - 2009-06-26 09:36:17
I saw the film on it's release date... Hard to believe that previous spoilers did not spoil the movie, but it's true.... they didn't. About being racists.... I don't know... I laughed at their ignorance and trying to be better or smarter then the other. Overall this was a good movie... not the plot I was expecting.

Was hoping that this movie would give more away of their characters like G1, but that was a different time. We all need to grow up and see things for what they are... G1 will not have a worthy follow-up, because we're to spoiled by it.

4 seasons and 1 movie will outmatch any movie no matter how many sequels they come up with. We (nearly) all grew up with a certain idea how the Transformers were and how they should be. Now while we're grown up (a bit) we want to be that kid again who watches amazed and dazed by the heroic Autobots and evil Decepticons....

We saw Optimus die after an epic battle, then Ultra Magnus became the leader while Megatron becomes Galvatron with his armada and Sweeps....
Magnus dies and a new leader is born Rodimus, who has 2 seasons of doubt about his capabilities... Then Optimus comes back and recognized Megatron in Galvatron how deep is that?

So rounding up see these two films as a new beginning of something different or maybe ending. (I hope not, let them continue)

On a scale from 1 to 10 i'll say 8.5 for ROTF and a 9 for TF 1.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-06-26 10:07:21
@BW 1: "they've had two years to appropriately adapt and correct the utterly stupid way they talk."

That's a pretty interesting thing you just said there BW 1, as it implies that you have a problem with the way that real world people speak, as there are people in the world that do talk this way. And I've gotta admit, that's a pretty racially insensitive thing to say. Calling the way they talk "utterly stupid" and that they should "correct" it? Who are you to judge the proper way of speaking?

And, again, the reading thing: NO ONE COULD READ THE SYMBOLS, remeber? They went to the museum and found the old guy because he's old enough to be able to read the symbols? Remember that? It wasn't just the Twins and Wheelie, Bumblebee couldn't either.

And I don't even get the sexist argument. I can't even think of a point where the camera was "having sex" with Megan Fox. But then again, I guess I went into the movie hoping it would be good, rather than looking for reasons that it was bad.
deceptifan said,  - 2009-06-26 10:46:40
They said they used The Fallen because he was the most "elemental" character. I feel Liege Maximo would have been a better choice do to being green, the Decepticons great grandpa, and lack of visible weaponry. Maximo may even have been one of the first 13, its unconfirmed. Fallen is a UNICRON character, not a human hating loser. I don't think the original Fallen even knew about humans. Just my thoughts.
BW 1 said,  - 2009-06-26 23:11:41
@tripred: no there's nothing racially insensitve about saying plainly that they sound like idiots because they are literally portrayed as bufoons. There are a very limited amount of people who speak like that and the people who do are imitating an extremely media-fueled black stereotype. And yes they should "correct" the way they speak because there is no justifiable purpose for them to speak in an over the top slang when they are dealing with not just humans who don't speak like that but the damn military for christ sake. The only justifiable reason for any of the bots to speak in anything other than plain, professional English is due to your point about there personalities being a way to keep them from being bland. Beside how dangerously ignorant that kind of justification can be, that still doesn't excuse or explain why they need to be so vulgar and crude, especially when they dance on such 'potential' stereotyping. That and their presence in the plot itself is so convoluted and unneccisary that their mere presence is offensive even if they weren't racially motivated. I was offended, not only because I'm black, but because they were absolutely useless additions to the story so all they could look like are poorly written, poorly executed, wastes of time. When they annoy you for not being either useful or funny, it becomes hard to not feel like bay is even thinking, let alone try to be a professional and god forbid be appropriate
leohoss15 said,  - 2009-06-27 13:26:06

A lot of times, when ranting about the last 'Transformers,' I exaggerated the bad things. If I said the same things about this horrible movie, I would not be exaggerating.
1. Apart from Skids, Mudflap, and the Fallen, the new characters (i.e. Jolt, Sideswipe, the motorcycle girls) did almost nothing and just felt like they were the obligatory new characters that come with sequels like these.
2. Plot? What plot? I believe in some country or other, this is titled 'Transformers: The Return.' That's pretty much the whole freaking plot right there. At least 'The Spy Who Shagged Me' was funny.
3. There were like a million different, random things going on, with no explanation or anything. It was so confusing my head actually started to hurt! What should have been the most important parts of the film - the resurrection of Megatron and the introduction of the Constructicons - happen in less than a minute.
4. Way, way too many sex jokes. Transformers are _children's toys_, dude! Parents don't want their kids to see dogs mating, or a creepy little RC truck-bot grabbing Megan Fox's leg in a disturbing way. And _why_, dare I ask, would a hundred-foot-tall robot, programmed only for destruction, need - or even have, considering his component vehicles - private parts the size of Smart Cars?
Urgh. "Ripoff" is only hitting the tip of the iceberg. I waited since I saw the first movie in theaters for this movie, and I was so disappointed I nearly cried. The writers and director of 'Transformers' can do much better.

Looking back through the predominantly positive reactions to the movie kind of gives me a warm fuzzy feeling in my colon. I'm moved at the devotion and optimism of some folks to the franchise. I guess I would liken the new movie to a Hefty Bag filled to the brim with diarrhea, and submersed in that sack of excrement is a whole new line of the newest TF toys. Some TF fans would simply see a load of crap with some TFs in it. But the devotees see past all the waste, and are ready to go shoulder deep for the sake of the 'bots. I'm humbled by the example that these true fans have taught me.

But seriously, it's unfortunate that 1) the people who made it (including Bay) seemed to quit caring about continuity, basic logic, and good storytelling, 2) there was easily an hour's worth of Hollywood-style filler trash that contributed nothing to the film, and 3) I'm going to end up buying the stupid thing simply for the sake of a few cool moments that I'll want to see in connection with the first one. *sigh*

What's wrong with the continuity? The two movies and their additional comic and novel fiction pieces all go together well (mostly).

I guess the Allspark wasn't powerful enough to permanently fix Bumblebee's voice.
And I guess an Allspark fragment wasn't powerful enough to help Prime, eventhough it did wonders for Megatron.

I haven't gotten the ROTF prequels yet.

Also, I somewhat meant continuity with the TF mythos in general. The first movie rocked, in my opinion. It took familiar elements and told a tight story with them in a new/different way. But this one, I mean, Megatron's relationship with the Fallen? Yeah, that's a good one. "Oh, oh, dude, ya know what was cool in Star Wars, let's do that in TF too!" And Fallen was a BMF in War Within, and they wizzed it down their leg in the movie. They just used rehashed Hollywood archetypes and dressed them up with token TF characters and plot points. Not that they didn't do some of that in the first one too, but overall that movie was strong enough that such things were easier to forgive. This one just felt like an all-nighter term paper that's due the next morning. It'll pass, but it could have been a heck of a lot better if more effort was put into it.

Also, part of me is kinda pissed that we're back to where we were in the 80s with the cartoon series. They give us all kinds of sloppiness and inconsistencies because it's just a paycheck to them, and we use our imaginations to make everything fit and make sense. I guess I had hoped for better based on the first movie.
Then again, I suppose that no matter what it means to us, it is just about merchandising in the end. ..."Why so serious!?"

one more thing...
if you didn't like the movie good for you!
it's your opinion.
MY opinion is that it's just mindless kick ass fun.
oh, my favorite characters are skids, mudflap, wheelie and reedman aka the guy made out of marbles.

@dr-fan/mai-lover: You best be trollin'!

Ugh, this movie was...alright, but I did feel it was a bit of a disappointment for me. Sure, I'm contradicting what I said above but now having a few days to annalize the film and see it a few times it just doesn't live up to the hype. I mean, the first movie, while it left a lot to be desired, still felt like a whole, whereas ROTF feels like a placeholder for something else. While there is more "ROBAWT ACTSION" in this film, the plot doesn't feel right. The first movie felt "good" whereas this one felt incomplete. I don't know, perhaps it's just my look at it. Hopefully TF3 won't be as bad as this one was.

tfafan, that's dr-fan/mai-lover's thing. Ir's what makes him him. Sure sometimes it seems a little difficult to interpret, but it's alright. There's nothing wrong with a little uniqueness and individuality.
