TF3: We have a name!

Ok so technically it's all speculation but hear out the Batman-like trail of clues for a sec:

A series of books have been listed at Amazon using the subtitle of

*drum roll please*

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon

All three books are due to be released on May 17th 2011 - not long before the movies' opening weekend of July 17. The author, Katherine Turner, and the publisher, HarperCollins, have a history of publishing books for both previous Transformers movies.

The books are as follows:
Transformers : The Dark of the Moon - Secret of the Autobots
Transformers : The Dark of the Moon - Autobots Betrayed
Transformers : The Dark of the Moon - Invasion of the Decepticons

In addition, the domain www.transformersthedarkofthemoon.com was registered on September 13 (according to DomainTools.com). No direct link to Paramount as yet but this could change.

Keep in mind this info also aligns with the filming taking place at NASA as well as various on-set pictures featuring large jet-like engines.

And have we all forgotten about the (alleged) early leaked script that started with President Kenned and the space-race? The old-school Bumblebee Datsun? If I didn't know better folks, I'd say we have a case of Marty McFly happening on the set of The Dark of the Moon!

That's an... interesting name. Kinda wish they'd drop the first "The", though.

I'm kinda hoping that this doesn't have to do with Unicron, as we've seen what these films have done to other iconic characters, with only a few of them having been decent. Remember what happened to Galactus in F4:RotSS? Yeah...

I'm actually hoping it has unicron

What if the moon is one of the minions of Unicron????? We know he has many and he is a multiversal character who would pull the strongest warriors he can twist to his side from whatever dimension he finds them....... He placed his minion (the moon) to track The Fallen and make sure his plans did not interfere with Unicron's......hmmmmmm?

OMG, IM SO FLIPPIN EXCITED

The title lacks punch. It doesn't quite grab you. In fact the title sounds a bit lazy, like it should have ambient piano music accompanying it. Maybe it will all come together and pay off in the end, but so far it seems dicey.
lioconvoy said,  - 2010-10-06 17:53:36
revenge of the fallen had impact, this just doesn't. its like the writers got lazy and just gave up or something. it works as an episode but not as a movie. a movie needs impact. something short and catchy or long, intricate and forboding. but we can't always go by tytles can we? so we should wait and see what we're given
Perceptor said,  - 2010-10-06 21:54:40
Waitaminute, "Minion" of Unicron? No way! Why would they do that? If ever there is/was an attempt to bring Unicron into the Transformers live movie Trilogy, using Earth's moon as his alternate form, that's how it'd be done!!!!

Think about that! What if the Ultimate Transformer UNICRON has been lying dormant, waiting for the right moment to strike... That really Earth's Moon is actually the Chaos Bringer, himself... WOW.

It would certainly lend itself to the whole US vs. USSR "space race" plotline. Imagine that if when astronauts landed, they found a little more than moon dirt and craters... WOW... Think of the possibilities...
HolyGrail said,  - 2010-10-07 00:41:54
I dunno about "lacks punch" but it's definitely a more subtle name. RotF pretty much told you what the film was going to be about. This on the other hand is much more vague and sinister which I like. It obviously implies some sort of TF-related secret on the moon and Unicron would be a sweet example of that.

It's really a logical extension of the added "wow" factor to the on-screen bots. No one's impressed by seeing a realistic moving talking Prime anymore so in RotF the big "wow-factor" was Devastator. So how do you top that in TF3?..... A transforming planet ala Unicron.

The only other option is some sort of lame energy source/weapon much like the pyramid in RotF. Hope thats not the case though...
lioconvoy said,  - 2010-10-07 04:04:24
it would be interesting to see a moon unicron but unlikely. if that is the case we would get a sweet unicron figure lol. but what about primus?

I didn't know Michael Bay was a Pink Floyd fan?,but if UNICRON will be in the movie I cannot wait!

If Dark Side of the Moon isn't the soundtrack, I'll be royally disapointed.
Perceptor said,  - 2010-10-07 09:28:19
The Dark of the Moon is traditionally the last three days of the Lunar cycle, immediately preceding the New Moon, and the time when the night sky is notably absent the presence of the Moon. The phrase can also be applied (in terms of roughly 2600 years) to the last portions of The Great Cycle, when the 25,920 year Precessional Cycle is completed, and the Age of Pisces gives way to the Age of Aquarius. Regarding the "Unicron = Moon" idea, it kinda sounds like ya'll want them to basically make a carbon copy of how Unicron was brought into the Armada cartoon. The idea of a dormant Unicron being Cybertron's Moon originates from Armada in that exact same fashion. This could be good or bad, depending on how one feels about the movies copying Armada.

Though, this does bring up a question. IF Unicron does turn out to be Earth's Moon, the question this brings up is, "Why?" Why would he be the Moon of Earth? What interest has Unicron ever had in the Planet Earth (aside from the shallow "it looks tasty" idea)? It's always been Cybertron that has been his main focus because of Primus' existence.

And, IF he were to be the Earth's Moon, there's no way he'd be able to consume entire planets being that small of a size. Planetoids, maybe, but not full-blown planets of massive proportions. Otherwise, his meals would take a LOT longer to finish than they would when he could just swallow planets whole, chewing them up inside his mouth.

Well do remember the producer did say that they would try to put mini-cons into the movie so Armada's Unicron intro wouldn't suprise me.
lioconvoy said,  - 2010-10-07 12:16:06
sabrblade if unicron is depicted as being a moon consider this...
he is a biomachanical demegod and when he consumes planitoids, planets, asteroids etc he gains mass. basicly like growing.
perhaps unicron was the one who instructed the fallen to go to earth for the sun harvister. perhaps he was there to oversee but was put in stasus by the primes. who knows.
it will be interesting to findout ... that is if he is included at all
Sabrblade said,  - 2010-10-07 14:26:28
I ask again, what interest would Unicron have in the planet Earth besides having it as a snack?

The two main MacGuffins from the Movies (the All Spark and the Matrix) were destroyed, so they'd have to introduce a third one in this film for Unicron's interest in Earth to make sense.
lioconvoy said,  - 2010-10-07 15:07:50
true i forgot about that.
hmm perhaps earth is seeded with energon? or he wants rid of the last remaining prime?

wen you think about it, there is truely no good reason for his existance at all.

to be honest, it seems mor likely that the moon will simply be a battle ground for the bots and cons. it seems unlikely that both the reckers, unicron, minicons (conjecture) etc would be intigrated that well.

sounds like a good preview for a fan fic tbh. but interest8ing never the less
Wing Saber said,  - 2010-10-07 16:46:57
I think that sounds like it could be good. Unicron somehow knew the last prime would be on earth, so he disguised himself as earth's moon, and waited until he came to earth. or, He came to earth to destroy the seven primes, failed, and is now trying to get his revenge by killing the last prime.
Shattereduniverseprime said,  - 2010-10-09 11:11:24
Well remember The Fallen was going to use the pyramid energy converter to unleash the power of the sun (I know bad sunny d ad) and harvest it all. If Unicron is the moon, maybe he has been dormant due to lack of power and the explosion of the sun was to reactivate him..... like the Armada trilogy....... and if you wanted to tie the Beast Wars era into this, remember Earth had 2 moons till one exploded, Primal saw/talked to 'Unicron'........hmmmmm just ideas
Sabrblade said,  - 2010-10-09 11:37:46
1. The Earth's Sun was not the only star that the Primes had/were going to destroy. They had destroyed other stars before they had reached Earth. The only reason they deemed it bad to destroy the Earth's sun was because there was life on Earth being sustained by its Sun. And their reasons for destroying stars was not not because of Unicron, but to recharge the All Spark with energon created from stars.

2. When was Unicron reactivated in the Unicron Trilogy by blowing up a sun?

3. That Unicron head in Beast Wars was merely a projection taken from Optimus Primal's subconcious that was used by the Vok to speak to him. They chose to use Unicron's visage because he was someone that Primal viewed as a "figure of authority". Unicron himself had no connection with any of the events of the Beast Wars whatsoever.
The Last Autobot said,  - 2010-10-09 14:09:21
Well Unicron didnĀ“t have anything to do in the US BW series, but a lot in the japanese series ang mangas and in the american comics...
Sidewinder said,  - 2010-10-09 17:54:09
Well, its just as likely that Unicron is just hiding on the other side of the moon, if he's in the movie at all. It could just as well be some other threat that Shockwave is keeping hidden on the dark side of the moon, like a "reborn" cybertron or Trypticon.
Sabrblade said,  - 2010-10-09 22:58:54
@The Last Autobot - I was refering to the US Beast Wars cartoon only, where the giant Vok-projected Unicron head hailed from. I know of his involvement in outside media, but that's not what I was refering to.

@Sidewinder - There's already a Movie Trypticon. He, or should I say "it", is the name of the Decepticon capital city on Cybertron. Or, at least, it was, until it exploded when Starscream's Nemesis starship crash onto it (little known fact, there are actually two Nemesis ships in the Movieverse - this one, and Megatron's Nemesis that housed The Fallen). The City of Trypticon was also formerly the capital of Cybertron itself (not Iacon), until the Decepticons seized it during the struggle over the All Spark.
edubs said,  - 2010-10-13 16:14:31
The Dark of the Moon would obviously refer to the "dark side" of the moon, which was rumored to have an abandoned alien moon base on it in which NASA supposedly discovered during the Apollo missions.
