First look at TFA Golfire Grimlock and Hydrodive Bumblebee.

BBTS has the first images of two new upcoming Transformers Animated Voyager Class toys. The first is a redeco of Grimlock called Golfire Grimlock, doen in shades of gold and black, making him kinda resemble a Lucky draw figure. The second is an all new mold: Hydrodive Bumblebee, which is a new Voyager Class figure mold of Bumblebee with a winged aquatic vehicle that becomes some type of armored form for Bumblebee in Robot mode.

Sweet. BB looks quite promising.

GOLfire? Not GOLDfire? Pass for me. I've got mine already, and it's fine. I'm probably going to pass on the BB as well. It all depends on how big BB himself is. The figure is a Voyage, but BB is clearly not that big. If he's kinda tiny, I may get him to have a size accurate BB.

Thats BB mold is a lot better than the original. And note that when hes combined with that thing in vehicle mode he looks like the cybertronian alt mode we saw in G1.

I need to emphasize how much better that Bumblebee is. His head and feet are appropriately sized, the stripe is on the correct side of his body, and it looks like his chest piece that has the windshield and all actually is the real thing in alt mode!
sorry for pointing out the obvious.

I'd get Golfire Grimlock if they repaint the Activators toy the same colors. I rarely get the same mold twice at a Voyager size or larger.

Bumblebee is quite nice. I may get that.

Bumblebee is the more interesting of the two figures. I'm never thrilled to see repaints of the same character, and why exactly is Grimlock all shiney and gold? Bumblebee's sculpt looks much better then the original figure, but I too am concerned about scale issues.

TriPredRavage, if you are looking for a good, solid figure of Bumblebee that is in scale with the rest of your figures (taking into acount legends Animated Prowl), then track down an Activators Bumblebee. He a great figure with excellent articulation and he's as close to in scale as you are going to find without being too big (deluxe) or too small (legends).

"why exactly is Grimlock all shiney and gold?"

His packaging bio will tell us.

Grimlock found some Electrum.

i agree with aethril, but how in the hell did bumblebee become a kickass quad-changer
Sidewinder said,  - 2009-01-16 23:50:37
It doesn't look like Bumblebee is a quad changer to me. It looks like he's wearing essentially scuba gear. It doesn't appear to change between the vehicle mode and the robot mode and it is clearly removeable.

And yes, I know that his packaging will tell us why Grimlock is gold, and I also know that the real reason is to sell more toys to collectors who have to have every variation of the character. My problem here is...he's shiny and gold. When I think monsterous T-Rex or hard core warrior, I really don't think of shiney gold. Re-paint him in darker colors, maby a cameoflauge motif so he can stalk his prey more effectively. But gold? Did he pick up some old Liberachi footage and get "inspired?"

See, my problem with the Activators line is that they are pretty expensive for the most simple of figures. They're like $8. Back in the old days, the Beast Wars flip changers (essentially, the Activators of their time) were only $6. So, I'm hoping for a size accurate regular/pretty well worth its price tag figure.

Well, Activators BB is also available with Leader Bulkhead in Toys'R'Us vlaue pack. Or with the purple Shockwave in the upcoming Target exclusive.

So that's it. Bumblebee goes voyager and a submarine. If it's one thing that's occurred to me, is that Transformers is one of the only toylines that doesn't have variations on one character.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-01-17 21:54:40
What do you mean by that?
Jumpercliff said,  - 2009-01-18 19:55:54
I mean...well, let me give you an example or two: in the 1990s Batman and Spider-Man toylines, there were more variations of the main character than any other character (I.E., Cyborg Spider-Man, Tornado Batman).
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-01-19 20:57:13
G1 Optimus Prime, G2 Laser Optimus Prime, G2 Hero Optimus Prime, Armada Optimus Prime, Armada Powerlinx Optimus Prime, Energon Optimus Prime, Cybertron Optimus Prime, Cybertron Galaxy Force Optimus Prime, Movie Optimus Prime, Movie First Strike Optimus Prime, Movie Nightwatch Optimus Prime, Animated Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime, Animated Optimus Prime, Animated Nightwatch Optimus Prime.... the list goes on and on...

I'd say TFs are right up there like every other series.
Jumpercliff said,  - 2009-01-20 18:41:56
No, no, no, I meant within the same series. (I.E. Powermaster and Action Master Optimus Prime).
