100+ New Character Pages & the Jump Box Revealed

Posted by:
Perceptor at 2007-11-02 10:07 am   (site update)
What is a "Jump Box," you ask?  A jump box is our new creation, a collaboration of effort between Brian and I, designed it to facilitate better inter-connection between the sections of Unicron.com and make navigation easier.  You'll typically (but not always) find them at the top of each character page and bottom of sightings and review pages.  You will find each contains a thumbnail of their in-package picture (to the left) a thumbnail of that character's instructions (right) and all relevent links in the middle, including Sightings, Reviews, Package Art, Instructions and the character page itself.

It all started while considering the idea of completing character pages for the toys of 2007 which seems like a nearly impossible task.  Considering there are over 180 separate packaged Transformers toys (among those we know of!) in 2007 alone!  That's 72 MORE Transformers than were released in all 4 years of the Beast Wars (1996-'99)!  Which got us to thinking, how much character page does a person want or need for toys like, Cyber Slammers Barricade, Legends Optimus Prime, or a recolor of a toy that never was/will be in comics, cartoons... like WireTap V20...

Pleas understand, these pages are not complete!  In time, we absolutely intend to add additional content to these pages, such as complete photo gallaries, additional character information (as it becomes available...), cartoon and comic stills,  etc.  But this system provides a framework to build around and we're excited about this new integration.

I'm not going to list them all out individually, but you will in fact, find 115 (!) all new character pages (for virtually all known Transformers Movie toys), done to various degrees of completeness within the 2007 section.  Just click the box picture thumbnails and you're there.

The next phase(s) of this project will include the addition of more character page frameworks for other toys ie. Classics, Cybertron, and the incorporation of jump boxes into other existing pages (from G1 to Beast Wars...)  Hope you enjoy this new functionality!

This can all be described in one word: IMPRESSIVE!!!

EDIT:
On second thought, I kinda take it back, but not completely. I'm impressed that you were able to
a) Get all those character pages done
b) Find a system that would be easy to do to help finish all the pages

What unimpresses me is that most of the page are just the back of the box. There's not realy anything exciting about that. It seem like you guys took a short cut just to take the easy way, no offense.

But I do understand that there were so many figures to go through and not a whole lot of time to get them out of the way. Its just that it seems you guys are slipping from your talented designs of character pages that you've become so well known for, among other things. I know you haven't, but it feels like you've all lost your creativity.

Its not your fault, I know. Hasbro has been pulling out product-after-product for this movie line, as if they expect it all to sell. Yet to this day my local Wal-Mart Supercenter is still overloaded with 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime DVD Edition and Cybetron Primus, which no one will buy due to:
a) Unreasonably high prices ($70 and $60)
b) Lack of interest
c) Current ownership

Honestly, it's like Hasbro just won't give you guys a break.

Very impressive! You ought to ask authors J.E. Alvarez and Mark Bellomo if you can borrow their photography sets.

Regarding all these comments, I cannot emphasize enough, these pages are *NOT* DONE.

This simply provides us a framework to start. At least now, all (well most) pages have at least information to reference. In time, there absolutely will be pictures, screen captures... included and incorporated. Eventually all pages will appear the way Movie deluxe Autobot Jazz, Protoform Optimus Prime/Starscream, Leader Optimus, etc... look right now.

Stay tuned, this is simply the beginning of many great things to come!

I'm afraid some of you don't understand how much work it is to do the things the Lukis bros do. I'm only a contrubitor for news postings. I don't add pages, do pictures, or much of anything else except find new and interesting things to put up as news items. Even that little bit gennerally takes me 2 hrs. Which is why I haven't posted lately. I've just to much else to do with the way work has gone recently.

I for one am impressed. It's a great idea!

agreed Knight wing, some people are never happy.

No worries mates! It's not like setting out we thought, gee these pages are going to blow people out of the water! They'll be SO impressed! ... Frankly, I put it in the category of, "better than nothing!" That is, at least the box picture thumbnails link to something now. There's a reasonable amount of information, easier to navigate and hopefully increases enjoyment for site visitors. It's just a good thing to hold us over until I can get to producing full blown character pages for all 5 million toys released the last couple of years! :)

I can see the value and the work that came from this, it is a well done job.

I assume they add things like this through HTML, which I know is time consuming. I would have to say to anyone that finds this pointless, assuming they don't know HTML themselves, they should give it a try. If they do know HTML code though... well I don't see their problem.

Hey fellow fans. Great job with all the edited stuff. I would like to inform you guys that my user name Brute928 does not mean my favorite former is Bruticous. My favorite is Starscream, the jet.

I'm actually quite pleased. They aren't "character pages" per se but they are a nice addition to Unicron.com nonetheless. I particularly like how instructions are offered for quite a few of them. I'd like if they all had them but at least I have something to look forward to.

BTW... OMG FAB Megatron looks nice in crome! I really wish I had collected the FABs while they were still on shelves.
