Links section becomes Transformers Web

Posted by:
Brian at 2007-11-20 12:08 am   (site update)
I am pleased to announce that our links section is new and improved.  Forum readers may have noticed I did some clean-up to our links section recently.  No more dead links, or links to old sites that are now defunct.  All 174 TF links are bona fide funtioning sites with Transformers content (maybe old content, but content, nonetheless)!

Aside from its updated style and pretty icons, our links section now features a history of updates for each site.  Site updates don't overwrite the last update anymore, so we can see a complete history of site updates over time.  (And an rss feed for each site, to be notified when new updates are made.)

As usual, anyone can make a site update on Unicron.com's Transformers Web.  So if anyone wants a challenge, I challenge you all to explore our rich fandom by finding an update or two from another Transformers site, and marking the update in our links section.  (And of course, thanks to all site owners and visitors who have been keeping our links section up-to-date all along).

Welcome to Transformers Web.  Let us know what you think!

Jeez! I'm an FOU and I even got lost in all that for a bit.
But "most comprehensive" more like "most complex".

Crap. Maybe I'd better re-think my interface design! Seriously, I think it's as simple a design as possible, for what it is. I'm open to suggestions. Despite what the description may imply, I think the complicated features [e.g. rss] are off to the side, and pretty ignorable for those who don't care about them, and the important bits are boiled down on the main links page. (List of sites, latest updates.) It's a big list, but hey, it's a big fandom.

Okay mabey thats sounds a little more exaggerated then what I wanted it but my sugestion is you should keep the "Sites updated in the last month" and the "Older than one month" sections but list the sites in alphabetical order making it easier for people to find a site and as more sites spring up they are automaticly inserted. oh and a "flag site" option which will remove a site from the list until someone can review it for inappropriate content.

I don't see the big deal. All the new sites are old. I'm a fan of only 4 transformer fan sites.

Cool I think it will be neat to look at the cool sites!

It might help to group each site into a different category based on what the site is about: general TFs, G1 only, BW only, RiD only, UT only, toys, shows, games, other, etc.

There is something extra cool about occasions when a Bro or F.O.U. makes an update that I had no idea about. Great update B. Love the new functionality.

I pretty much agree w/ what everyone has said, it's a lot to look at but, hey, it's a BIG fandom! It's boiled down about as nicely as can be considering the VAST amount of info and functionality that's there. However, I concur that if there is a particular site that I'm looking for, it would be nice to have the option to view the list in alphabetical order.

Peace, see ya on Turkey day! :)

Alright, popular demand dictates that I allow sorting alphabetically. I'll add soon - probably tonight.

Sabrblade - interesting idea. I had been thinking of something similar recently. It would take some work, but I may look into it sometime. Coming up with decent categories will be the tricky part.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! Those movie customs of Unicron and Primus are so well detailed. Are you selling them on ebay megatron?
megatron said,  - 2007-11-20 21:30:00
no sir , but it is cool.
Perceptor said,  - 2007-11-20 21:46:51
All it took was popular demand?! Wow, B you mist be losing a step giving in so easy! haha! :)

While I don't object to Sabrblade's idea, it seems like a LOT of work for moderate return. If you've got any free time for a project I have some thoughts for YOU! :)

Once again i cant even fathom the amount of time you guys must have to spend on the site for each and every update. Sadly i know nothing about HTML and all that jazz. I tried to take a few classes but the whole concept is above my intelligence level :-). So hats off to you guys once again. *Cheers

Those customs are cool but, i think it just fuels some complaints ive heard about the movie bots looking like "bionicles" hopefully those complainers wont see these :-)

Wow! look at that Tyscream im here ten minutes after you ;-)

OMG you guys are pittiful with all this time stuff. OK I know the Lukis Bros. are gods, but still. And secondly... what about me? Didnt I bring you guys stop-motion videos of all our favorites characters transforming step-by-step from one mode to another? :(
Sabrblade said,  - 2007-11-20 23:43:25
Those custom Unicron and Primus figs are made from the new Transformers wanna-be (the commercial even uses transforming sound similar to the Transformers one): Neo Shifters.

About my idea, yes I know it would take time, but think about the results of it. Plus, if you were to try it, I wouldn't expect you guys to get it all arranged like that at once. Set a time when you have nothing big going on for a while to do it. Or do one bit at a time. It may be complex, but it would be worth it.
Perceptor said,  - 2007-11-21 00:00:52
Oh yes we are gods, there's very little question about that... (Jeez, where do you guys come from anyway?!)

Yeah so, one of the nice things about this 'brotherhood' of ours is the fact that we are each of us SO different w/ very different talents and interests, which translates into the ways we contribute to the site. I couldn't begin to write the coding Brian does. The completist, photography buff, continuity interests... makes me the only bro that does what I do. Jason, he's our 3D computer modeler (essential for parts manufacture) and he finds a lot of other ways to contribute, both visible and behind the scenes. It's a cool deal.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention our appreciation to all our 'Friends of Unicron(.com)' for making us, well much more up to date when we cannot keep up w/ news gathering and posting duties... OH and let us not forget those spectacular stop motion videos we could not live without! (Tongue in cheek, BB! Toungue in cheek!)

g'night all!
