According to Newsday.com, they have reported that comic artist Frank Springer has passed away at age 79 on Thursday April 5, 2009. The cause was due to prostate cancer.

Springer had done work for various comic companies, including DC and Marvel. Long time Transformers fans will remember him as the artist behind the first four issues of the Marvel Comics Transformers series and the Headmasters mini-series.

A memorial service is planned later for this spring on Long Island.

Man, we are just LOSING the big old names. Last year alone, among the dearly departed was Ricardo Montalban.
