ROTF Jetfire On Great Planes

No‚ not really Jetfire but for those of us trans-fans who receive the military channel this friday at 7pm and again at 10pm the show Great Planes will be airing a new documentary on the SR-71 Blackbird Jetfire's alt form in the movie. This is a good way to learn about his alt form how it was made and what it cam do, so kiddies if your parents complain just tell then its educational. I should point out that the air time is based on pacific standard time so be sure to check your local listings.

Hey, I know what the SR-71 was made for... speed. It was one of the fastest stealth planes during the cold war.

yeah I might watch it and the toy same as a LOT of people can't find it

The SR-71 Blackbird was made for speed and spying on the enemy. I have seen 2 of the 3 remaining Blackbirds on the planet other than the other military storage ones. I have also heard frommilitary people that the Blackbird was originaly designed as a stealth bomber, but that is a rumor.

I like Jetfire, and I do love the Blackbird. Any of us pretty much got our first exposure to it either in museums or in X-Men.

The display around here is rather nice, it's actually outside, parked some hundred feet away from the standing Saturn V mockup (and a few hundred more away from the dissassembled real one)

There's a little chain guard thing going around it but you could easily reach out and touch it if you are tall enough. though i never would. Not brave enough.

I'll have to poke around sometime next week to see if they are selling Jetfire locally. See if I can get that photo of the real thing with the toy. I think i'd be a nice pic to have on :)

It was in X-Men? Wow i never noticed

The SR-71 itself was not in X-men but many of the incarnations of the X-jet they use are usually based off the SR-71, but not exactly like it. Although I think one comic might have stated they used the exact jet but I wouldn't know for sure.

It's only that the X-Men's jet is named "The Blackbird". It isn't necessarily a Blackbird in every incarnation.

I think that the SR-71 in Huntsville is one of the rare ones because it was originally a YF-12. For those who don't know YF-12 its the armed version of the SR-71. It carried the aim-47 and could fire it at Mach 3+. That may of been where someone thought it was a bomber. I believe that there are also 20 left today not 3.

Would anyone care if cha-cha said the SR-71 was retired in 1990 and only a few were kept in service until 1998
ShyGod said,  - 2009-07-23 21:50:53
Yeah did a little Wiki Reading.

I had noticed that 'mine' wasn't on the list of blackbirds so i navigated around a bit and found the A-12s. there are also two others, the YF-12 as Haul mentioned and the D-21/M-21.. all of which have at least one surviving unit lying around.

also found this RATHER interesting little bit:

roooooad triiiiip... gotta see 'em all. ;)
