There have been some really interesting posts by Brian Goldner, of Hasbro regarding all of the leaked pictures from the Transformers MOVIE.

First post on the Don Murphy Forums
"*/Good Afternoon--Let me answer your questions. Starscream is simply the coolest, most aggressive military jet in the skies. The military has given us unprecedented access to deliver this character to the audience in the most compelling way. He is Very much like G1. As noted to Nelson earlier in the week, the details, deco, weapons, and sculpt itself will change as we move from grey model to final form.

Megatron is an early style board. Without revealing too much of the story, there is a very important reason for his look to have evolved from pure G1; although the final look is a work-in-progress--ILM has just recently begun all their CGI development. Megatron has a iconic personality, and approach that dates back to G1. Throughout time he has had a very big gun.... /*"

Second Post on the Don Murphy Forums

"/How do I say this--You guys say you want to see robots NOW, and then, when you see early work-in-progress, you flip out!!!

Let me try to frame where we are headed with TRANSFORMERS, and draw some analogies...you loved G1 the first time you saw it ( and every time since), and so did we...It told a NEW story of sentient beings that have human-like characters, and yet, there is so much more to them than what's on the surface...they transform from recognizable objects to unimaginable robots. They have their own history, and rivalries that we witness, and get swept up in... We all owe it to the next generations of folks to use the technology, storytelling, and access (to real contemporary vehicles/military) that TRANSFORMERS provides to drive this forward...your input in very important as it helps to shape the delivery of TRANFORMERS as a LIVE-ACTION movie. We will show you robots, when they are right....they will be PHOTO-REALISTIC. In fact, this movie could have never been produced much before today....this is worth the effort.

We need to tell an origin story because not everyone is as versed as you in the history....we need to explain elements of the TRANSFORMERS that can be glossed over in animation...there are logic gaps that do need to make sense when a broad global audience buys a ticket and wants to enjoy the show as much as you will...we continue to make progress.

Starcream is a complex character. He is loyal, and yet ready to mutiny all at the same time. He is two-faced and duplicitious...his character will be played out in his design...as he evolves he is looking very cool....

Megatron too is a very important link from past (G1) to present...there are major story elements that will come to light as you watch the film that make his evolving design ring true...of course, he has always had big guns...just wait to see what we have done here....again, LIVE-ACTION....

The comments and jokes about leaving the boards are unjustified...there has never been a group of producers, writiers, and studio executives more engaged in this project, and for that reason not always attached to these boards.

thanks...bg/"

I think the film makers are making a big mistake , if things continue the way they are going... No one is going to see this movie , and Michael bell will become the next Allen smithee ... oh and one more thing ... there are certain things that make THe characters who they are ... Megatron had a weapon on his arm . starscream has to have a face , not to mention the right personality ... Optimus has to have the rectanglar shaped chest. bumblebee has to have an face that is obviously fresh cause he is young like a kid ( which is why he and spike are homies ) ... they don't have to make this movie interesting for the general public( like with every movie ) this time they can just follow the formula ... IT has worked for 22 YEARS!!! people wouldn't still love Transformers if corperate hollywood had to stick there fingers all the way in ... im willing only to settle at the Camaro deal ... thats it !!! the rest has already been written so Don't CHANGE IT!!! ok there ...

A big mistake??? I respectfully disagree (w/ just about everything you say. That render of Megatron is still an early render, he might still have a cannon on his arm. Besides that, Meg hasn't had a cannon on his arm in years and no one complained. Besides, I think it makes NO sense for megatron to transform into some earthly hand gun disguise. (Frankly, that was pretty lame IMHO). What need would the mighty Megatron have of disguise? I think a wicked cybertronian looking jet is PERFECT.

These characters must be different! It's been 20 years since the G1 Cartoons started. Many of the voice actors have passed away (Starscream, Jazz...) Expect differences! Besides that, even back in 1984 the story of their origin was told in different ways (cartoon and comics) and no one made such an uproar.

I've got news for everyone, there are "a lot" of Transformers fans, yes. BUT NO WHERE NEAR enough, even if every one of them goes and sees the film 100 times (which I plan on, by the way!) to make the film financially successfull if it doesn't appeal to a mass audience. SO, do you want a sequel??? Then it's got to appeal to EVERYONE!

Everything I have seen with this movie gives me more and more confidence that it's going to ROCK house!

i said that in an earlier comment that megatron should be something from cybertron...but I was saying he needs to have the arm weapon doesn't have to be a cannon... yeah and the directors track record should be considered ...i mean look at what joel shoemocker has done to films ... and you do have a good point . and this is your website ...

I am waiting patiently. I haven't seen anything yet that screams bomb to me. I am not fond of the current rendering of Megatron. While he hasn't always had an arm cannon, he has always had very unique and extremly powerful weapons.

I view this as the writers did, a brand new transformers, a completly disticnt and seperate line of transformers from any and all lines that have come before. As long as the basic fundamentals are there and the toys are cool, I am all for it.

im excited but at the same time terrified to see this disaster in the making. they got 11 months to get it right

Megatron is a very strange design and I have no idea how the toy is going to transform without one of the mode looking COMPLETELY different. I've seen a few toy prototypes like Starscream, Scorponok, and a helicopter. Bay could make a great thing out of this with the help of us TF fans and the creaters of the Transformers. The special effects will be handled by Dreamworks and the acting will be handled by Paramount. I'm going to see this movie if it's the last thing I do. I wish the preview was done in a kids movie like BARNYARD, because then less people would know about it and we could get into the movie and not worry about it being sold out. Now, tickets will be sold out for a few days if you're not early. Transformers now will never be the same. This movie might make us MISS R.I.D. Or make us forget about R.I.D. I'm not sure what the heck is going to happen with this movie, but I wish they made another movie trailer with the robots in it and the acters. TF fans, TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT!

Transformers fans, it's our duty to make sure this movie is awesome. Thanks!

As some have said, I think it's just too early to tell how the movie will turn out.
Like any cartoon/show/comic being made into a movie, Transformers will have to walk a thin line. On the one hand, it will have to stay true to the original series which it's based on to a degree. But at the same time, some things will have to change.
Some things in the original show (and even comic book) just don't make sense, and wouldn't help out a movie. Plus this whole thing has to be condensed into a movie that not only has a good plot, but tells the origin of these characters. It usually seems that origin stories can be tricky to do.
I consider Spiderman to be a success story in making a movie from a comic. Yes they did need to make changes to Spidey, like giving him the organic webslingers and drastically cutting his wrestling career short, but they did it, and what's important is that he for the most part was the same character. They didn't drastically change his powers or anything, and they worked at some of the story plots as well.
I will reserve judgement on this Transformers movie until I actually see it. I do have my initial disapointments from what I see now, like Megatron being a plane (I can understand not making him a gun, but I wish they made him something exemplifying brute force, like a tank), or how Bumble Bee's apearance, but these do not effect the story directly. On the other hand, from what I've seen of Optimus, he looks like he could be pretty sweat looking. But time will tell.

i have been a fan of transformers for a long time, they are making chages for good reasons coz in fairness G1 was 22 years ago, a little revamp wont hurt and in fairness megatron looks in my opinion pretty cool even though i in an ideal world would have liked a tank. But so far the designs are far better then i expected, cut the people some slack by the look of it they are ding a dam decent job and are going to introduce more adult themes in to the story instead of having a giant hour and a half long toy commercial. Also in fairness you can not judge a film when it is not out until next year we should all judge it after the film even the most hard of the g1 vetrans.
Koss11 said,  - 2006-08-28 12:07:26
yeah , it is expected that the Movie will be different , and that things have to make sense ... but at least some things have to be recognizable ... yeah people who have no idea about transformers will have to be introduced and entertained ,it would just be respectfully to pay homage to the originals. yes it is to earlier to judge ,but the producers , and the other people working on the film did ask for feed back on the developement of the film... however i plan to voice opinion til , and after the film is released . plus its ok relax, its just words... the people making the film have all the money anyways . so if they want they will just not listen and make the movie. thats what everyone should expect from hollywood . :/

My major complaint was Optimus Prime. The paint scheme doesn't really suit the original character, unless they plan to make his personality different. He wasn't flashy. He didn't have a design to strike fear in people. He was generally friendly and approachable, which I think was lost in the new design.

Oh, and maybe some consistancy from the people behind the film would be nice. "We aren't trying to reinvent the Transformers. Just trying to tell a story about them". It looks like reinventing to me.
Alexitron said,  - 2006-08-28 15:49:46
I understand and expected some changes to the original transforms, and most of what I've seen looks good (Starscream and Megs excluded). My major concern is the faces. I love the original faces, they are truly what brought out the characters personalities. I really hope we will have at least something close to the visors and glowing eyes as in G1. Bug and alien faces are really going to blow this film with me. I want to see Starscream's smirk and Bumblebee's fresh youthful smile. Is that too much to ask?
Knightwing said,  - 2006-08-28 17:37:11
No, it's not too much too ask. But, as some people have pointed out on a group that I belong to. This could be a lot of "leaked" info to be misleading us. The real deal will not be known for certin untill the movie is finished.
koss11 said,  - 2006-08-28 20:42:48
see after i thought about it , thats what i came to a conclusion about... so lets be surprised ... and if they blow it then we can riot in the streets ... J/k just kidding ... hahahaha ... but hey even if the movie sucks we get some new toys ... and no one has the same taste when it comes to toys ...

I suppose there isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said, but I do have stand on the side of perceptor on this one. Yes I have seen the designs that have leaked out on the internet (I for one am asking myself how) including the Prime renders and so far, I like what I've seen; its fresh, its new, its different. And again I think it must be stressed that these are works in progress; they might be the final designs for these characters - they might not.
Does anyone remember the first time they watched thier first episode of Beast Wars? Most people's reactions, including mine, were "What is this? PrimAL? He has a FACE? What are these people doing to these characters?" But still, we watched...and became entranced by the STORY of these characters.
Now, the people making this film are giving us a fresh take on something already established, something we already KNOW, and that's kinda scary. Some of us are already lashing out over this: Understandable. But I ask all of us to also remember Beast Machines, and the torrent that caused. Bob Skir's LIFE was threatened? All because he put a new spin on characters that had become established over several years. Characters who were, ironically, originally spurned.
The point I guess I'm trying to convey to my fellow fans out there is to cut Michael Bay and these guys some slack. They're trying something new that's different, daring, bold. You might like it, you might not, and that's ok. But I, for one, deeply respect them for taking the risk to TRY. And I think that's what matters.

A friend of mine had a good point , mayber the transformers look like that cause thats what they look like before they crash on the Ark and get reformatted to adapted to life on earth ... i mean hey who really knows what an Alien robot looks like anyway?
Alexitron said,  - 2006-08-30 10:35:54
Everything else about this film just rocks... but I just CANNOT get over the face designs! I just got a peek at BBs face close up and it freakin SCARED me! He has big round saucer eyes and a gas cap for a mouth... uggg... I just wish I could let this go but if these faces are final it's gonna be a huge leap of faith for me to take with this film... why not keep at least a semblance of the original facial features?!Why, why, why??!! *despondant*

Hey Jazz is the little guy right? Eh, whatever... I'm making him the little guy. And, I'm "offing" him too for dramatic effect.
