The next installment of our report from ToyFair and the Movie Preview Event has been uploaded and is ready for viewing.   This, in the form of an all new character page, for  TF Movie OPTIMUS PRIME includes some cool new features!  As if you were there to see it live, you can hear Michael Ritchie, Sr. Brand Manager, for Transformers, Consumer & Retail Marketing explain one of the very cool features of Optimus Prime's "Automorph Technology" in action.  Further, we've got high resolution pictures of the toy from nearly every angle, close-ups, character summary and even packaging from all sides...  Enjoy and happy weekend to everyone.

Fear not, more news, pictures and accounts of events in NYC to come!  (and thanks to Jason for teaching me that cool you tube trick!)

Yeah, love that extra mile they went on detail. Love the little video you guys got in there. Just a suggestion, but you guys should put videos of some figures transforming. Not to be pushy.

this looks like one of the best primes ever

Rid Optimus Prime and Energon Optimus Prime were the worst ever. The best Optimus Prime (not counting G1 or Beasties) is Cybertron Optimus Prime combined with Wngsaber and movie Optimus Prime are the best ever. I'm glad they didn't use the rid Scourge mold and just repaint it for the movie. Like you said Spyke they did go the extra mile. But I say an extra 5 miles.

I don't know BB, I agree that Cybertron Prime is the best prime since the Beast Wars, but the RID Prime was a pretty kick butt figure as well. Especially when combined RID Magnus. Magnus needed work, but Prime was cool. Either way though, he was a much better figure than Armada (the big one) and Energon.

Aww I forgot about him, but yeah armada prime was pretty bad to.

I really can't judge most of the previous Primes that well other than in apearances. All I can say is that RiD rime looked pretty darn cool to me, and was pretty tempting for me to buy. I thought the uncombined Armada Prime looked kind of cool too, but combined with his trailor, looked lame.
Energon Prime looked horrid to me, and I consider it herrisy to attempt to copy Voltron. But Cybertron Prime looked pretty cool too.
One Prime not mentioned though: Masterpiece Optimus rime is my person favorite (and him I do own). But then, I'm very much a G1 fan too, and not into most of this other stuff, except the Beast Wars.
As for this movie Prime, I think he looks amazingly cool. The "Automorph technology" gimick is a nice touch too. I think I'll actually wind up picking this one up.

The existence of a $70+ Optimus Prime, with di-cast parts, cartoon accurate symmetry, super complex/fun transformation, an insane amount of paint and sculpting detail on every component, accessories galore and its all based on the classic G1 original styling... (of course I'm referring to Masterpiece O.P.) makes the whole "best Prime toy" debate rather moot IMHO. But at that pricepoint, it's an unfair comparison, apples and oranges.

My prediction is that this toy, (Movie Optimus) will be ranked by most fans among best Prime toys ever. Off what I could tell, it going to have all the major aspects collectors look for: very complex/fun transformation, pose-able (This I already know, as I got to pose it!) amazing sculpt and paint detail. Looks great in both modes. I also, really like the "automorph" feature. Doesn't get in the way, in fact it helps make the transformation more fun and adds some neat play value.

I'll also predict that after the movie, the toy reviews will become a bit more harsh, as people will want it to look, *exactly* like it does in the film. From what I can tell, would be impossible without breaking the laws of physics. For example, making wheels look smaller in bot mode and components on his back shrink, etc.

Considering the insane amount of detailing and stylation that are present in the on-screen movie OP , I think they've done a very nice job.

BTW, did everyone notice the feet? (Pictures in Toyfair magazine have the 'toes' not flipped down, transformed incorrectly.) I took close-ups here to show some of the very cool intricate detail, like the ~1.5mm wide autobot symbol etched and painted in. Like this, I'm sure there are still lots of nice surprises to be discovered w/ this toy upon further inspection...

I have to put my two cents in here. I have based my colletion on the vairous molds of Prime, Megs, and any one they combine with. Which Prime is best depends on criteria of judgment.
If based on play value hands down Armada supercon. The transformation isn't overly simple. And it transforms fast enough to actually paly with without stoping the on going play action with other charactors.
If based on fun/complex transformation RID takes the cake. I agree with Perceptor here in that MP Prime is not a fair comparison he is in a leauge of his own. So, with the mutiple modes and show acurate sculpt this one wins. Not to mention, it is one of the most posable Primes out.

I've owned almost every Optimus Prime. The Armada Prime was one of the worst. Masterpiece Prime is one of the best except that he's very top heavy and leans forward too much. Classic Prime is one of the best. I wish he had a trailer with all the features of the G1 version. The movie version is a Kenworth W900, I think.
Knight wing said,  - 2007-02-25 11:28:27
The full Armada Prime was bad. Your right about that. But the deluxe size "supercon" as he came to be knowen is much, much better.
megatron said,  - 2007-02-25 13:12:02
well all i can say is...WOW! but i hope somebody A.) puts up a page of power master prime or B.) finds enough pictures to make a Megatron page.

I'm with you Knight Wing, the delux Prime kicked butt. I didn't actually own it, but I did pick up the Nemesis Prime and Ultra Magnus repaints of them. And speaking of Powermaster Prime, anybody else thing that the Botcon guys should get the RID Prime and Magnus and paint them to be PM Prime and Apex Bomber to go with the Deathsaurus figure? I think so.
