Masterpiece Optimus Prime 2!

Hold on to your hats fellow fans!  We had the great fortune to receive an advance copy of the 2007 Transformers Movie Leader Class Optimus Prime!  Check out his newly updated character page with a variety of photographic additions (all the smaller thumbnail images are *new* links to LARGE, super high rez images)  Here's our review of the toy.

* Rubber tires: CHECK!  (that means, indeed yes!)
* Alternator's-esque real vehicle detailing: CHECK!
* Tall smokestacks: CHECK!
* Transformers Cybertron-esque sturdiness and play value: CHECK!
* Transformers "Beast era" toy posability: CHECK!
* Advanced + level transformation complexity: CHECK! (FUN!!!!! The first time from bot to truck, it took me 20+ minutes, with directions!)
* Unicron/Primus level hand detail w/ individually posable fingers: CHECK!
* Toy "Gimmick" play value: CHECK! (double CHECK!! it's the best gimic of all, enhanced transformation capabilities in feet and chest... Absolutely OUTSTANDING!)
* Plethora of Decepticon busting weaponry: CHECK!

This figure sets a new standard in Transformers toy quality.  It is the definition of what "Leader" class should mean.  At a retail price of ~$40, this toy holds its own versus all of the other "best" Optimus Prime toys ever made vs. Powermaster, Beast era, Armada, RID, Cybertron... Yes, I would even say that dollar for dollar it surpasses the coolness of "Masterpiece" Optimus Prime.  Because lets face it, Masterpiece Prime only had to have enough detail to compare with it's cell animated cartoon counterpart.  THIS toy has to look good next to a real truck and a just as real looking robot...   Two thumbs way, WAY up.  (And I'm not just saying this to suck up to those responsible to getting it to us!)  This toy is instantly on my personal short list of best Transformers toys ever made.  Rating: 10+

I won't be able to say for sure untill I get mine in June, but I have to say I agree with you. This may be the single best Prime (or tf in general) ever made. It looks fantastic. In alt mode it is nearly perfect. With only the 5th wheel plate being too far back and the gap in the sleeper as problems. Those are fairly minor complaints. And at $40 it is an awful lot cheaper than MP-01 ever was. I can't wait to get mine.

All I can say is "I hate you" (expressionally) But I agree with you, that you give it a 10+ even though I don't own it yet. I can't wait till I get some extra cash to buy my own.

perceptor I once thought of you as a hero to transformers fans, but now I hate you!!!!!!(just kidding for the time being) I also did manage to pick up a few movie figures though so I guess we're even. picked up Voyager Starscream, and Blackout and picked up deluxe bonecrusher all at walmart! of all places!!! no offence to walmart though. the store manager wasn't going to give them to me but I complained to him and he ended up just letting me buy them early.

also, I guess he doesn't but, I have to ask one question, does he have a matrix?

Off topic I decided to buy 20th anniv. Optimus today since it was on sale at walmart for just under 38 dollars and its still just under 90 dollars at toysrus. It is a cooler toy than I thought and will probably be my last chance to get him for a while so I decided to snag it. Looking forward to this prime too now that I've read some about the features.

I have my own review!
The truck mode is very nice. I prefer the voyager's sculpt and the little driver gimmick, but leader has the good paint job.
The transformation is pretty fiddly, what with all the panels that have to align perfectly to make the truck mode. I've often heard that the knee panels have trouble staying up. I personally prefer the voyager mold but leader Prime just has a quality feel with the good paint job and cool automorphing. Not to mention the gun automorphs over his hand. I thought it was neat. And those moving fingers really seal the deal.
Highly recommended
