In case you're like me and thought the new episode of Transformers Animated was on 10:30 Central time and missed the first 5 minutes, be sure to catch it in its entirey tomorrow at 11 EASTERN 10am Central time...

So, what did everybody think?  I thought it was mind-blowingly AWESOME!  Lets hear your thoughts!

Okay, I loved the RiD reference with "Car Robots, Bad!" I thought Kaye did an excellent job portraying the good ol' Grimlock. I laughed at the jokes about Bulkhead. I think the writers/animators have a little too much interest in pooping birds, however. That was the second time that joke was used, maybe if it becomes a running gag I'll get used to it.
Perceptor said,  - 2008-01-12 11:01:13
AGAIN, what I liked about this show is the ease with which people can think of this series however they like. For instance, if you want to consider this a completely different, alternate Transformers reality, fine! Go for it. There's nothing to say you're wrong.

On the other hand, if you're like me and want to find ways to tie stories together, try this on for size. Lets say that G1 Grimlock and the dinobots were killed in some untold post G1 story... Their sparks would therefore join the "Well of Allsparks." Then years later, provided just the right opportunity the Allspark, in it's infinite wisdom, decides to let Grimlock, Slag and Swoop be 'reborn' in this time continuum...

I absolutely love this PERFECT portrayal of Grimlock! And being set in future Earth, we can all choose to see it however we like!
Sideswipe said,  - 2008-01-12 11:12:30
Indeed the "Car Robots, BAAAD!" said over and over was hysterical!

I can't believe they even incorporated the whole, "Me, Grimlock!" G1-style vernacular! AWESOME!

I also liked the part,
Bulkhead: "He said, good thinking!"
Bumblebee: "He also said, Bulkhead!!!"

This show is funny, entertaining, GREAT ACTION, and perfectly written to accommodate G1 fans and newbie youngsters...

It's getting really difficult to be excited for all the movie toys (especially all the bad recolors) BRING ON ANIMATED! CLEAR THE SHELVES, I WANT ANIMATED TOYS NOW!!!

I loved this episode, great G1 coloring for the Dinobots and the whole "Me Grimlock" was great, took me waayy back! Love the way they finished it off by having Grimlock Transform into a robot with hid sword and same G1 face!! Cant wait to see more episodes with the Dinobots!!!

Did anyone see when Bulkhead knocked Slag over, what he said? "Excuse me!" Nice homeage to the TF movie of the 80's!

Interesting that they replaced a human villain episode with this. Hopefully they will do that to all of them.

than any other transformers show
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-12 17:09:43
Yeah, I'll say. Grimlock was played perfectly! And his robot mode was just as magnificent. When they said, "Cars and trucks bad! Car robots worse!" The first thing I thought was, "Oh, RiD alert!" (pun on "red alert").

Also, I loved how Sumdac learned of Megs' existence and how Megs duped him into thinking he was an Autobot too. Perfect.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-12 17:32:39
So here's the real question, were the writers trying to tell the fans that they thought RiD was lousy, too? Or was it just a coincidence? I think in all 24 years of Transformers, the worst two series were RiD and Generation 2 (but G2 only because it was just reruns of G1 and a whole ton of repaints).
Jumpercliff said,  - 2008-01-12 20:06:27
I thought the episode was actually good. Now I just can't wait for Slag and Swoop to speak more, same with Grimlock. He definitly looks like his G1 self in robot mode, and David Kaye sounds just like the way Gregg Berger sounded in the G1 cartoon. Who else agrees?
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-12 20:26:59
That's a good question, TPR. I think it might've been a coincidence that happen to have a second message to it. But, you never know. The writers could've been aware of it.

About RiD and G2 being the two worst, that's kinda hard to say. Cuz many people hate all of the post-G1 series for different reasons. G2 because of it being nothing more than messed up reruns. Beast Wars for being drastically different from G1 and having animals instead of vehicles. Beast Machines for its weird designs and nature vs. technology war (when really it was a harmony vs. extremism war). RiD for its goofiness and pure anime-ness. Armada for its less-than-great characters and "Gotta catch'em all" theme. Energon for its also less-than-great characters and storyline. And Cybertron for its plot and just the fact that its part of the Unicron Trilogy.

Some people even don't like G1 season 3 because of its futuristic setting, lack of Optimus Prime and Megatron (who was Galvatron at the time), and its unfamiliar characters.

But don't get me wrong. I liked all those series to a degree, except for G2 which I never saw.
jamesirvine said,  - 2008-01-12 21:06:35
as for the cartoons...really it"s all for the kiddies, the only one that i really liked was the last season of B.W. and the B.M.{all the transformers are dead}series. and yes the R.I.D. series was the worst ever the whole trilogy series being not much better. I really only care about the toys {930 transformers} and the comic books-which are awesome since dreamwave and idw took over.
this new series...well my boy likes it anyway.
Mirage2006 said,  - 2008-01-12 21:08:44
I liked it. It seems pretty cool that we first see the Dinobots. I liked how David Kaye did how Grimlock talked (i.e. him saying "Me Grimlock"). I also liked the part at the end of the cartoon where Grimlock transforms and has his blade. His robot mode has the look of G1 Grimlock. He even has the sword that came with the original G1 toy. I also did like the reference to RID with Grimlock say car robots were bad. It's a shame that Swoop and Slag didn't talk though. Anyway all in all I give Transformers Animated Episode "Blast from the Past" two thumbs way up to Cybertron! Looking forward to the next episode.
Bass said,  - 2008-01-12 23:37:36
Loved this episode. It took 20 years, but the DINOBOTS are back! I wonder if Snarl and Sludge will come back in Season 2.
megatron said,  - 2008-01-13 00:32:02
so far so good .i cant wait for megatrons return .i dont like the fact that megatron created the dinobots too early in the show and it should have been one of the autobots that made them .but its good to see the g1 robots come back cant wait for the toys.i wonder ifhasbro is making leader class prime and meg. anyone know when figures will hit the shelves?
ZhaneX said,  - 2008-01-13 02:07:54
Dunno when figures are coming, but heard that OPtimus will only be Voyager. Anyway, Missed the episode, just as I did last week, but watched it on Youtube. Awesome episode. And why is it that only Grimlock seems to be itelligent? Also, Flaming Sword? Awesome.
Mechaburst said,  - 2008-01-13 08:58:19
I want to see megatron get rebuilt! Plus I also want him to take the allspark! (Just for a cool fight scene.)

Tyscream said,  - 2008-01-13 12:09:04
Yes Autobot Jazz, he will be/ Just not soon. Also, I'm back from ma grandma's! I now I say ma a lot but, no, I'm not Texas boy. Also, Grimlock was very cool and funny. But out of the Dinobots I want Sludge first. But the first Animated figs I'll get shall be my fav, Starscream, and then Ratchet. Also, I got some new stuff. Not Transformers related. And finally, yesterday/Jan. 13 I went to a cool Video game store and the owner had a mini Decepticon tattoo. They also had old Nintendo 64 games. Pure classic.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-13 12:28:42
Here's another thing I've noticed. Whenever Swoop screeched, he sounded an awful lot like Birdramon from Digimon.

Master Dex said,  - 2008-01-13 13:10:29
I missed it but am watching the Sunday re-run now, only 10 minutes in so I won't comment, but so far so good.

Also, not only will Jazz be in the show, but he may have to requisition his groove back (a joke from Futurama, because Jazz's voice actor plays Hermes on that show, I actually got the joke from the TF wiki).
Tyscream said,  - 2008-01-13 13:28:18
Really? I remember reading that on the TF wiki as well. Hope they don't make him the exact same tone of voice as Hermes from Futurama. That would be plain weird.
Master Dex said,  - 2008-01-13 13:32:52
Indeed, most likely he won't sound exactly the same, a good voice actor can do many voices. As we have seen with this show already.

I've watched the whole thing now, impressive, seems it will take a while to get the Dinobots on the Autobot side. The upshot is they don't know the different from Autobot and Decepticon, so they probably would attack both.

I think the car robot thing wasn't meant to be a reference to RiD, but there is nothing wrong with seeing it as such, I certainly didn't like RiD. I was hoping they'd transform during the fight, but at least we got to see Grimlock in robot mode, albeit briefly.
Cheetor2 said,  - 2008-01-13 16:57:34
Did anyone notice the Autobot symbol on Grimlock's chest? I thought the episode was very well done and David Kaye was awesome as Grimlocks voice. Still don't care for the animation style of the show.
Tyscream said,  - 2008-01-13 18:03:45
Hey fellow fans. I know this may be a weird question, but. I would like to know, how much do you like or enjoy collecting figures and other collectibles? Or just Transformers if thats all you collect. Just give a rate of 1-10 of how much you enjoy hunting down figures. Me you ask? A 9.
Master Dex said,  - 2008-01-13 19:12:33
To Tyscream's question, I'd have to put a 4. I don't really collect that many things, TF or not, and nor do I make a big hunt out of it. I wanted to do that in my younger years, but my money caught up with me fast and I never really bothered. My total TF collection is less that 15 figurues, and I only really buy collectibles that I really want or I find certain personal value in, like Masterpiece Starscream which I really wanted, or my various Star Trek ship models which carry some personal value to me that I won't go into as I don't have time to write a novel that no one really is interested in, lol.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-13 19:30:15
So here's my one thing with the episode. I loved Grimlock and how Kaye played him, but he didn't have the same sound as the original. The original had a very hard sound to his voice, while Kaye kinda makes him sound... I don't know... regal? The original VA (Gregg Berger) is actually still around doing voices for things. I would have loved to hear him come back for the role considering that we're going to have the original Blurr (John Moschitta)and the original Arcee (Sue Blu). It would have been nice.

It's also funny to think about how this is the first real appearance of Grimlock since G1 (RiD Grimlock not withstanding), especially considering how many figures there have been of him. Beast Wars had a figure, RiD had two (one a back hoe, the other a Dinobot), Energon had one, Alternators had one, and Classics had one, too. It's crazy to think how Grimlock has stayed along with us for all these twenty some-odd years, yet he really hasn't done anything at all.
Silent_Magnus said,  - 2008-01-13 19:33:05
About Jazz's VA.
It's Phil Lamar(sp?)
He was one of the original Mad TV cast members.

He can do a wide range of voices. He was even Samurai Jack's VA. But I hope he doesn't use his Chris Rock Impression for Jazz.

And Perceptor, I think your attempt to fit this into G1 cartoon Continuity may be shot down next episode. as it has to do with Ratchet flashbacking to his tour of duty.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-13 20:43:25
Um, TPR. I don't remember RiD having any Dinobot toys. Could you please explain?

And you forgot the Armada Dinobots Grimlock who was a Wal-Mart exclusive packaged with Swoop/Terranotron.
Ed said,  - 2008-01-13 21:22:33
Loved the toon. Thought it was great to see grimlock and other dinobots back on the small screan. Hope they make it to the live movie. To answer sabrblade question the dinobots were not in rid. Grimlock was a part of the consruction robots for the autobots. He was green and transformed into a front end shovle loader.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-13 22:12:08
Sabr, that was the second RiD Grimlock, lol. It's pacaging said "Robots In Disguise" on it, I think, or maybe it just said "Dinobots", but it was actually more under the "Universe" line than the Armada line. Either way, that's the one I was talking about.
Scorpomike said,  - 2008-01-14 00:54:37
I think it was a great episode. I can't wait until the story digs a little deeper. I noticed that when a series starts, it seems a little dull. I was hoping there would be a few more Decepticons right away. They did a great job on the Dinobots so far. I can't wait for more familiar characters to arise, like Arcee, Blurr and Jazz. But c'mon, we need some Decepticons! Where is Starscream hiding anyway? I can't wait to see Lugnut and Bulkhead clash and I can't wait to see Megatron with his body back.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-14 03:50:05
Okay TPR. I get what you're saying. But the six Wal-Mart exclusive dinobots were marketed under the name "Transformers: Dinobots", rather than RiD, Armada, or Universe. I just said that they were Armada's Dinobots because:

* they were released towards the second half of Armada
* the "Dinobots" line from before was released alongside Beast Machines and was inserted into that toyline, and
* all the other sites I go to list those six dinobots as part of Armada's toyline
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-14 09:43:37
You know what I've never understood? A lot of things say that the character T-Wrecks makes refferences to Grimlock and imply that he may in fact be Grimlock in the future. I've never seen any of these such instances. T-Wrecks seems completely different to me (aside from being a tyrannosaurus and, questionably, being the leader of the second Dinobots). Any thoughts?
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-14 10:30:23
Yeah, I don't think he was Grimlock either. I think that was just an idea someone got from reading T-Wreck's tech specs and thought that they reminded him of Grimlock's.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-14 11:57:35
It's funny, Sabr, I never noticed that the Beast Machines Dinobots weren't listed under Beast Machines. I guess I just consider the third wave of Dinobots part of RiD because all figures who appeared along with Armada that weren't directly involved ended up getting labeled under RiD like Destructicon Scourge, Bludgeon, Smokejumper and Dreadwind, etc...

I just realized we're in our fifth generation of dinobots.
1. G1
2. Beast Machines
3. Wal-Mart RiD/Armada Generation
4. Classics
5. Animated
It could even be six if you consider the Energon Grimlock and Swoop to be the Dinobots alone, considering their combined form was called Mega-Dinobot. My how time flys...
Autobot Jazz said,  - 2008-01-14 12:40:58
I dont like the dinobots cause they are kinda dumb things
I'll never get used of that "Me Grimlock...to stupid too speak like normal brain having bot..."
Its logical (they're self-made) but i dont like it, though!
But how they really became the dinobots was what seemed very cool to me. it looked totally awesome. this giant electro-megnatic wave GREAT. those things are what i enjoy.

^and sorry for my miserable *not slang* pronunciation :-(
but i'm GERMAN :..-(
Autobot Jazz said,  - 2008-01-14 13:00:40
And what about Ironhide? Ratchet is the exact copy of him and acts the same way as he does. How will our little cowboy become? A nice autobot never going a head???

ok rathets not exactly like ironhide but ratchet's tellings about his war against decepticons... would have matched soooo good to ironhide i think.
Mechaburst said,  - 2008-01-14 15:54:13
Re: Autobot Jazz. First off COOL name! But still the if you grew up with the dinobots you'll understand that they awesome!
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-14 16:07:45
Couldn't have said it better myself, Mechaburst, lol.
Of course... I didn't grow up with them either... But I've had a shirt for YEARS that says "Me Grimlcok Kick Butt" on it.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-14 17:04:44
Perceptor, I believe it's been said that Grimlock will be a Voyager and the others will be deluxes.

TPR, why wouldn't Energon Grimlock and Swoop be a generation of Dinobots? You put Classics as one, but the only Dinobots in that line are the Grimlock toy and some Mini-Cons. If you think about it, the Classics Grimlock is really the only REAL Dinobot toy in that line. Those Dinobot Mini-cons are only called that because of their dino forms and their have been several dino transformers not called Dinobots.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-14 17:28:52
Yeah, but the Mini-Cons were all divided into sub groups, theirs being "Dinobots". If it were just their alt modes then the Dinoforce Pretenders of Victory would probably be Dinobots as well, but we all know that's not the case.

I question the Energon guys because I don't think they were ever called "The Dinobots". They merge and become "Mega-Dinobot" but that's their combined name, similar to the Victory Dinoforce merging to be "Dinoking". If the name "Mega-Dinobot" alone qualified them, then it would be enough to qualify BW Dinobot as well and we all know that that would be incorrect. That's why I don't really consider them a Generation of Dinobots so much as homages to the Dinobots.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-14 18:39:07
Yeah, I guess.

Also, I just remembered something. Classics Grimlock is a Dinobot, right? And he's the only one in his Dinobots group, but is still a Dinobot. Well, in Beast Wars, there was a toy of Grimlock whose Tech specs reveal him to be G1 Grimlock. Yet, you've neglected to include Beast Wars as a Dinobot generation. Grimlock was there, even though he was on his own.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-14 19:57:14
Ah, but I did not neglect BW Grimlock, for he alone doesn't make the Dinobots. We know that he is the original Grimlock, but if you read his tech spec he is clearly listed as an average warrior in the Beast Era. And as we said before, listing individuals simply because of their alt modes does not merit the inclusion. BW Grimlock, while he once was a Dinobot, is no longer a Dinobot by the time the Beast Wars occured.

And I don't know what you're asking about the Classics, Sabr. According to Grimlock's card he is listed as the "Dinobot Commander" and then the Mini-Cons are refered to as the "Dinobots", so I guess the answer to you question is yes and no? Yes, Grimlock is a Dinobot, but no he's not the only one. And if you're asking if Grimlock is the only original, then no again because one of the Mini-Cons is Swoop. Again, I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for.
Sabrblade said,  - 2008-01-14 20:16:52
I meant that Classics Grimlock is the only one of the original Dinobots in the Classics line. I wouldn't think that the Mini-Con Swoop is G1 Swoop because why on Earth would a full-sized Autobot be downgraded to a tiny Mini-Con? I also don't count the Dinobot Mini-Cons as the REAL Dinobot team of the toyline because they're Mini-Cons. The Mini-Cons' purpose is to be an accesssory for larger figures.

Also, I was saying that despite Classics Grimlock is the only member of the G1 Dinobots team, Classics was given a spot on your list, while Beast Wars also had Grimlock as the only one of the G1 Dinobot team, yet it was skipped to Beast Machines.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-14 20:58:26
Yeah, but that's the thing, Grimlock isn't the only Dinobot Classic. The Mini-Cons are officially the Dinobots of the line. I was listing the Dinobot faction, rather than miscellaneous appearances of characters and names. That and I do consider Classic Swoop as G1 Swoop, especially considering that the Classics line didn't utilize the Mini-Con ports, so the Mini-Cons in Classics are really just smaller soldiers. I mean, heck, Bumblebee got downgraded in size to a Throttlebot as Goldbug, why not Swoop? Swoop was even in the Botcon comic operating under Grimlock as he always had as if nothing was different about anything. That and Swoop is probably the most consistant Dinobot after Grimlock considering he was in the Wal-Mart line, the Energon pack, now Animated, and of course Classics.
Scorpomike said,  - 2008-01-14 23:46:22
I say anything that resembles the G1 Dinobots are truly Dinobots. I don't consider the dinosaur Transformers that look like organic creatures to be Dinobots. The real Dinobots are the five from G1, Grimlock and Swoop pack from Energon, Classics Grimlock, and the Animated Dinobots.

If anyone wants to figure anything out, then figure out which ones are really Predacons. Is it the G1 Preds, or is it the Preds from BW, BM, and RID? To make it really confusing, Dinobot was originally a Predacon.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2008-01-15 09:24:28
I don't see how the Predacons thing is even questionable, Scorp. It's pretty much widely accepted and believed that the old G1 Predacons are the first in the evolution from Decepticons to Predacons. It's even played off like that in the comics as aparent in "Beast Wars the Gathering" and "Beast Warsa: Dawn of Futures Past". Then the ones in RiD are pretty much accepted to be a different continuity, so it doesn't matter anyway, and if you accept my theory about RiD being an altered G1, then the RiD Preds are just the G1 Decepticons under a new aligience. Then of course there is the character from Armada named "Predacon", who I would wager, would be the first step in evolving that line of Decepticons into Predacons just as the original G1 Predacons had.

And again, as far as Dinobots go, I accept anything that is clearly labeled as a Dinobot to be a Dinobot. That's G1, Beast Machines, Wal-Mart dudes, Classics, and Animated.

I´ve just watched the video on Youtube (some guy called Fanof transformers is posting all the episodes =) )and it was fantastic!! somehow the creators managed to make the human characters interesting! Previous series humans were pretty much endless bore but Sari is really a complement in the whole personality-interaction scheme. As for the Dinobots... GRIMLOCK KING!!

I also dont really like the G1 figures cause they are so immovable (i just knew the well moving figures and so...)
but theres one figure i really want to own (except jazz of course): BLITZWING
but its quite hard to get G1 figures in europe
any tips???????? PLEASE

My only tip, Jazz; eBay. It's not a very good one, but it's the best tip there is, I think. Anyway, that being said, I grew up on Beast Wars, also and I've gotta say, while I am loving Animated entirely, it still hasn't captured me the way that Beast Wars did. I just remember the first two episodes of Beast Wars were unlike anything I had ever seen before, most of Animated is new takes on old stuff, so it hasn't quite done that yet. Albeit, they are really cool new takes, but they're still old plots none the less.
Autobot Jazz said,  - 2008-01-15 12:31:32

ive been watching BW when i was 3 years old so it really burned-into my head (it was quite the first i saw when i began thinking) are u 15 y. too, TriPredRavage?

There are nearly never G1-ies on european ebay except england (theyve got another currency)

have the lucky transformers-collectors-club members seen pics of the animated blitzwing toy figure yet?

I can't wait till Saturday when they show Lockdown. I like Starscream and Earth mode Megs(I know what it looks like). About the missing episode "Total Meltdown", from what I've heard it might air as episode 8, but is still episode 5 despite the airing error.

Nah. I haven't seen one yet Autobot Jazz. Don't feel too bad about your age,the only thing that matters is that you're a TF fan.I've been a TF fan since the day it first aired! I am now 36 years of age, and I have a large collection of TF.My first one was Starscream ( I traded him for Sideswipe). In response to an earlier question, concerning collecting other toys-I'm about an 7.
That episode was awesome!!!MORE DINOBOTS!!!!!

I wouldn't worry Jazz, I didn't see G1 until a couple of years ago and I'm 18 now, 19 soon. I still haven't seen all of it either, mostly just season 1 and 2, not much of season 3 at all. I too grew up on Beast Wars. Also I've never been to a Botcon, although I'd like to go to one and I have mediocre collection compared to everyone here, but I don't care because I don't want a large collection, just what is important to me. I'm no less of a TF fan than anyone else here and neither are you, if you like TF you are a TF fan.

Don't bother with Youtube, the G1 series is worth buying or renting on DVD. I'm sure they have it out in region 2 or whichever is the one for Europe.

As a fully paid up uk transformer fan can I ask for any reviews of the new cartoon as at the moment there has been no indication when we will get it here! It certainly looks different. My 8 year old son is excited about it!

In answer to cyclones question. No, Megatron found out about Starscreams betrayal in the previous episode.
