War Within (?) Soundwave

Among the most popular characters in all of Transformers, he's the only ROTF character that has been 100% officially confirmed to be in the next film.  And because I've been enjoying going back and revisiting the War With series, I figured it would be a grerat time to revisit Titanium Soundwave, or "War Within Soundwave" as I like to call him!

Look, I know I take a lot of flak for jumping to the conclusions I do.  But lets face it, he looks darn fine on a shelf next to War Within Megatron and Starscream.  Besides, if anyone can tell me definitively what Soundwave's pre-Earth alternate mode was back in the G1 days, then I'll listen to your argument to the contrary.  Until then, I'm going to put this toy on the same shelf as other War Within toys and roll with it.  Regardless, it's now permanently linked to in the 2007 Transformers Section!  Have a good weekend everybody.

--Does anyone have the package to the following 6" Titanium toys that they could scan and e-mail me a copy?  I would really appreciate it!
* The Fallen
* War Within Megatron
*  Rodimus Prime
* Sunstorm

Thanks, perceptor@unicron.com

I love this Soundwave. I consider him part of The War Within too. The Titaniums may be the only War Within figures we ever get. I still have Sunstorm in the box. I can try to see if I can make a decent scan. As for War Within Megatron I only have the box from when he was packed with Prime.

Well at least you're aware that you get all of that flack...

I'm pretty sure that Soundwave's pre-Earth form was the Cybertronian equivalent to a street light. It's my understanding that pretty much everyone in the TF fan community believes this. Where's Sabrblade? He always has this kind of information...

I'm right here.

From what I could tell, he was a "space-age lamp-post".

And I'm pretty sure that this toy was meant to be G1 Soundwave (Earth body), but was given new details (colors, the CROTCH) to make him look unique and cool enough for kids to buy some bot that turns into a tape player ("Tape player? What is that, Mommy?")

Was this toy released at the point where the boxes started to say which series the figure is from, or did that happen one wave later?

Oh, and I have the Titanium The Fallen, but I got rid of the box a long time ago.

Man, when I actually get this guy, he's my Classics Soundwave. Exactly how tall is he?

He's just slightly taller than Music Label Soundwave (MY Classics Soundwave), a few millimeters taller. So he's at the normal Deluxe class size.

Well, as far as what G1's Soundwave's Cybertronian mode goes, I'd be willing to believe he was the equivelent of a signal tower. Take into consideration that there were several other objects along the road that looked just like him, which lends credence to the street lamp theory. However, given the level of ambient light already on Cybertron despite it being the dead of night, there wouldn't be that big of a need for them. However we know that the transformers use wireless digital communication, so it would stand to reason that they have an abundance of signal relay towers. What better way to intercept communications then to disguise one's self as a communication relay? Just a theory.

I always thought in that first episode he was mimicking the lamp by stopping midtransformation. I might be a minority here. I should pick up Music Label Soundwave. He looks great.

Soundwave never transformed in The War Within comic itself but there were sketches of his alt mode being a tank.

picture number 8 looks nice, but i hate the way soundwave looks like in this one =/ even though im a big fan of him...i would give 6/10 for this kind of soundwave
And if they made him turn into a tank and radio, it would be awesome xD

He looks cool in the comic book though :P
