BotCon Sky-Byte official preview

Previously, we reported images of the upcoming BotCon 2010 exclusive figures Sky-Byte and Sharkticon, both to be redecos of the Energon Sharkticon mold, and now the official preview of Sky-Byte has been put up on BotCon's website.

Sky-Byte is not only a redeco but a remold as well, featuring an all new headsculpt based on that of the RiD Sky-Byte figure (and by extension, the Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Cybershark figure, of which RiD Sky-Byte was a redeco of).

For more info about this, and the Sharkticon figure, see our previous report on the two for a plethora of info.

Sky-Byte hails from RiD
But he comes with G2 figs.
What's his purpose here?

So, Sabr, remember that theory of mine that RiD is a divergent timeline coming off of the Beast Wars? Lookin' pretty good now... XD

Not so fast. We can't say 100% for certain that this is the same Sky-Byte as the RiD character. The only reason he's being included in this is because 2010 is the 10th anniversary of Car Robots and RiD. He could very well be a wholly new character intended to be a homage to RiD Sky-Byte.

In fact, there already exists another Sky-Byte aside from the RiD one whose based off of RiD Sky-Byte, but still a different guy: Animated Sky-Byte, a renowned Decepticon poet.

Beisdes, according to previous info, this year's story follows after The Rebirth Parts 1-3, which is part of the main G1 cartoon timeline (or at least, the U.S. one).

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what this year's comic will have to say about who he is and what he's doing here.

Though, on a related note, I may be able to make it to BotCon this year (may, as in, I'm still not sure). But, I won't have the money to register for any attendance package. Meaning, that I won't be receiving the G2 Redux box set.
While I'm really not interested in Spark, Clench, Breakdown, and Streetstar,... I WANT THAT SKY-BYTE!
Is there any possible way that I could get my hands on that Sky-Byte at BotCon without having to get the other four figures with it? And without having to pay for it in gold?

Hey, all I know is that Sky-Byte is a Predacon. I'd also be willing to bet money that he'll be in the comic with the rest of the G2 inspired characters.

I have to admit, if they end up going some way that puts RiD in continuity with G1 and G2, you'll probably be able to hear me laughing from anywhere in the country. lol If it does go that way, I will willingly renounce my fanon to adopt the continuity they set forth if it is done well and enjoyable.

I just hope this comic is good. I personally thought Wings of Honor was a pretty weak story in comparison to the comics of past years. But, I mean, hey, it's G2. It really can only go up, huh?

And technically, you're only half right. It is the tenth anniversary of Car Robots, it's only the 9th of RiD.

Love the theory TPR! Almost makes me want to watch some of those crappy RID shows! :)

What're you saying?!! I LOVED RiD! Sure it started off kinda weak and was forcifully edited by Saban because of 9/11, but it was one of the most fun TF series I've ever seen. I'm even willing to say that it's almost as fun (but not as cool) a series as Animated.

It was silly, light-hearted, and just the sort of fun series that one needed after all the edgy doom and gloom of Beast Machines (don't get me wrong, I liked Beast Machines too, this series was just the nice contrast to it). Not to mention that it brought out one of the coolest Decepticons ever: Scourge. This guy could give Starscream and any Nemesis Prime a run for their money anyday. And it did get serious and intense later on when Fortress Maximus and Galvatron came into the story.

I've given more info on why I consider RiD to be a good series here:

I have to agree with Sabr, here, Perc. (Although I'm glad you like my theory! ;))

I really liked RiD. I didn't like it too, too much as a kid because I missed so much of it (I never knew when it was on), but I saw a lot more of it when I was older and found it quite funny. I think the show could have been stronger if it hadn't been a victim of 9/11 censoring, but it's still very enjoyable. It actually has some of my favorite TF designs of all time.

Admittedly, RiD Optimus is actually my favorite Optimus Prime. He was the first Optimus Prime to have a super mode in the show! (Y'know, except for the one in Masterforce, but he doesn't count because he's not officially an Optimus Prime... yet!) All of the OPs that followed him were kinda lame in that, they didn't really have a gimmick of their own.

And Scourge! He was awesome! He was the second black, evil Prime clone to ever be animated, but the first to exist as a substantial part of the series! (The first being Leo Prime's black, evil clone who only appeared in one episode of BWII.)

In conclusion, RiD was a lot of fun and actually did a lot for the TF universe in the years to come. So, you gotta love it!
